I live in the boonies of Halifax, VA and get 1 or 2 bars on my phone with an EVDO signal inside the house. So I thought a card would get the same signal. Wrong! I bought the Franklin CDU550 first (the usb card) and using the Y cable either outside or with it hanging out the upstairs window, I could get 2 bars. Obviously I need an antenna. I found out that the Franklin card can't be hooked up to an external antenna, so I exchanged it for the PC 5750 yesterday. I ordered the antenna from 3G on Sunday, it should be here tomorrow. But now I'm worried, because I can't get a signal at ALL. Not even outside!

I'm not using a router, just a DELL Inspiron 9300 laptop.

Is the antenna going to help me? I'm new to all of this and it's VERY frustrating. I'm about ready to call it quits. Saturday my 15 days is up to decide if I want to cancel or not.

I've had dial-up forever and it's killing me. Nothing else is available to me here, and I'm only about 7 miles out of town (South Boston).

Please help me, I'm pulling my hair out..........

I'm using a 5750, with an external yagi, and I'm getting -60 dbi with full signal. I'm pretty happy with it, now if Alltel could get the tower issue here straight. I've had a ticket with them open for over 2 weeks, with no contact from them yet.

I can't get a signal inside my house without the external omni hooked up. I can get a signal outside my house without it, but I have to position myself just right. Even with the omni inside, placing matters for me. I went from 22% signal in one room to 67%/90% in another room. Needless to say my server is now in the room with the greatest signal. Smile

If you still have a few days left on your trial, I would wait for the external antenna to come in. It made a big difference to me.

I had the KPC680 card and had an awesome signal inside my home. I wanted to use a router, and since the KR1 doesn't play nice with the 680, I traded both in for a LinkSys router and a 5750. I was not happy to find that the reception with the 5750 is MUCH worse than the 680. I did order the trucker/omni antenna from 3Gstore.com and that fixed my problem.

Wait for the antenna, I think you will see good results!

Thanks everyone! I think I just needed a pat on the head and someone to tell me it was going to be okay.

I'm taking off work this afternoon to work on my antenna. Wish me luck!

PS Hopefully I'll still have some hair tomorrow........

Update! I got my antenna and I'm sitting here with it sticking out the window upstairs. I've got one or two bars and an EVDO signal which is enough to make me happy.

Thanks guys! This is a great forum. I've learned alot reading it.

I am curious about the external Yagi. First of all, which one do you have, and how long is the RG58 cable between the card and the antenna? Do you also have an amplifier? I do like the Omni antenna, but was told if I wanted to put it 75' from my card, I would need an amplifier.

Let me know! Thanks!

It's one I picked up off of another site (3g doesn't carry Yagi's). It has a 30 ft cable, no amplifier. I may put a 10 ft extension on it, but that's the farthest I'd go without an amp. I agree with the need for an amp for 75'. I have an omni that's good too, but the yagi has a longer cable, so I don't need to find another extension.
