I recently purchased the CTR-350 (about two weeks before 3Gstore made it available) and have had great luck with the unit.
The only thing that I wish were different is the need to always manually "log on" to the unit when accessing it for the first time in a session. By this, I mean that, even though I'm using WEP and have the WEP key registered with the connection in my WiFi device, the CTR-350 still requires me to go to an internal "logon" screen and log on as a user. If I don't do this, then I cannot visit anything via the Internet connection. (BTW, I'm using a 595u.)
I would like to turn off this additional level of redundant security, but can't find where to do so. Am I missing something? |

The login is, as you mentioned, a security option meant to keep out others who would like to ride for free on your wifi which will slow down your connection and also might leave you liable to a lawsuit should they do something illegal.
Since the CP has limited wifi range this might not be a problem...
The manual should point you to how to setup, change or cancel the password login.
Note, that if you want to use the login you should change the default name and password. |

That was the one feature we didn't like during our evaluation / testing of the unit.
The good news (for anyone reading this), we include a tip sheet and a CD with latest firmware that allows you to disable this feature.
On a side note, the CTR350 is the only EVDO router that is shipped with limited protection from people nearby from using your WiFi. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I cannot believe I now have a fast internet connection thanks to this forum and the 3GStore.
I just got my CTR350 and V. USB727 today, and have not thought about security. What is the minimum I should put on my CTR350 router? I have my desktop connected by an ethernet cable and my laptop by the wireless.
THANKS! |

Michael, as previously noted, I received by CTR-350 from a friend. I'm not sure where he procured it; however, there is not a tip sheet with it. Is it possible to buy one from you guys? |

Security is very important, most so because we have computers with universal operating systems that can easily be studied in private and then hacked.
At first you might consider a password dialog an inconvenience but then you discover the malware on your drive and your next door neighbor driving a new car financed with your credit history (yes, the guy is an idiot).
Anyone consider it an inconvenience to lock their house when they leave or the car when they exit it? You've made that a simple habit, an automatic one at that. So, do the same with your passwords.
Keychain on a Mac may automatically fill in many passwords for you...
Wep can be hacked so use the other one. |

| Login as admin, go to Basic->Wireless and uncheck the "Require User Login" box at the bottom, then save the settings. |
