Think you pay too much for EVDO, try $4,202.95/month!

Check out what the poor Canadians have to shell out for EVDO and data...

On the best plan that I see they'd be paying $4,202.95 for a month that had a 5 GB downloaded.

Am I correct or am I missing something?

I wonder what people pay in other areas of the world? I know we have some people from other countries here, what do you pay if you are not in the U.S.?

In the past few weeks the big cell companies in Canada have started coming out with good data plans. I just signed up for an unlimited EVDO rev.a plan for $75/month on Bell Mobility. Of course once to add taxes and system access fees it comes to $100.

Some people are saying that there is a limit of about 5gb, but 5gb is good enough for me since I only use it on the road.

A few months ago I used my GSM phone without having a data package. I was charged $34 for 700kb.. yes KILOBYTES! Not even a meg!

In July, when I had my verizon motorola q tethered to my laptop, I connected in Victoria for about 2-1/2 hours for a windows update. I d/l about 266 MB. When I got my bill the following month I discovered that I did not have a roaming data plan in Canada. My bill was $2788. I about had a stroke. After a lot of back and forth bs with customer service, I wrote a letter to the west-coast president of Verizon Wireless.

For what it is worth, I have to say that the top brass of Verizon Wireless are a bunch of decent folks, at least to me. I was treated with kid-glove service and got a giant credit on my account in effect waiving the roaming data charges. To boot, they threw in an extra bill's worth of credit for all my heartache.

I am a loyal Verizon customer.
