The 680 and KR1 will not work so a new router KR2 is in the works and may be out around the first of the year. Am sending mine back tomorrow and am going to wait for the KR2.

I gave up on Kyocera.....their support sucks, just try calling them. They actually forward you to D-Link!!! Anwyay, I traded in the 680, got a 5750, and have a LinkSys router on its way along with an external antenna. I have used LinkSys in the past, and their support has been great. I think Kyocera has a long way to go in this market......

Sadly Capt. Dan, I've talked to many at Alltel who have never heard of an EVDO router period. New or existing.

Of course I also had a support rep tell me a year ago that my Treo 650 was capable of running EVDO because he "had one in his hand and it was showing EV at the top". Product knowledge isn't always at the top of the list of requirements for employment at any of the carriers. Pretty sad.

Seriously, many Alltel reps, support or sales, are totally unaware that Alltel even sells the KR1. As for Kyocera coming out with a KR2 soon I, for one, wouldn't hold my breath considering the length of time they historically take to release firmware updates. I think they are close enough to SEE the cutting edge but it appears they were scared of the view! Very Happy

Somehow,..that just doesn't make me feel warm or fuzzy!!! I maybe looking for a new carrier...Maybe?? We have two computers, Both on Vista and I can't get the newest PRL file to go in as the disc and drivers in the KPC-650 box, Won't work on vista and Kyocera made some kind of driver program to let me use it in my computer but, the program has no features at all, and is a gap fix till those like me who need the 680 to upgrade. But then they don't have a card to adapter or a line adapter for the 680 to KR1. Now Ihear about the KR2 and MY kr1 is about what 2 months old?? How Mighty white of them!!!
Happy...NOT!!!!

I truly gave up on Kyocera. I returned my 680 for a 5750, and I returned my KR1 for a LinkSys. Alltel knows NOTHING about cards with routers. They are touting the NEW KR1 firmware 1011 as the fix for the 5750 to all of the Alltel reps....which is a load of crap.

I don't have a KR1 router - I have a D-Link DIR450.

I know that D-Link makes the KR1 for Kyocera, but I was wondering if the KPC680 with included sled would work in my router.

So I e-mailed D-Link Tech Support to see what they would say:
They e-mailed back to say I should check with the Sales Dept.
..Huh? Rolling Eyes

There is a seller on eBay selling new Alltel KPC680's, with the sled, for a fairly small price. I am tempted to buy one just to see if it would work.
But I don't feel like buying one - only to find out that it doesn't work.

Thanks a million, Tech Support! Mad

I am certain the sled with the 680 will not work with the KR1, but I can't say what will happen in the Dlink

I don't know if anyone has seen this but I was on the Kyocera site and they show a new sled. A KOY680ECA sled with a cd-rom to install and designed for the KPC-680. This can't be the same sled that we have had soo many problems with, Can it??? This card shows a stand alone price of $34.95. Tell me that 3G has this card so I can get mine to work with the KPC-680! This could be the upgrade we need! Anyone else hear anything about it ?? Rolling Eyes

if a sled comes with a CD, that means it needs drivers to work. if you are hoping this new sled will work with KR1, then i'd say there is little chance of that, since you can't install the sled's drivers into KR1.

we already know what sled works with KPC680 and KR1: the one we sell
