What kind of speeds is everyone getting with Alltel Axcess EVDO? I am using the Alltel Franklin USB CDU-550 and I am in West Central Florida with the closest Alltel tower 4 miles away. Data Tier 3 also did a PRL push for Sprint..at least that's what he said.
If I am downstairs and use a cup with my Franklin USB card hanging on top I get consistent download test speeds of 1024 KPS with speedtest.net after I used the EVDO tips and DR TCP.
Upstairs my speeds fluctuate and I get anywhere from 300 kps to 890 kps download speeds with speedtest.net
What are your speeds? Did you do any tweaks to make it faster? |

Those speeds are not typical.
more like 500kbs down and 50 up. |

clownz,
Which tips are you referring to ? Right now I'm only on 1x and my d/l speeds are 145-197, averaging 150ish though. My up/l is almost always 130+. I've only seen "DO" hit my QLM icon once in two days. The rep at my local Alltel assured me that it will be full EVDO by the end of October. If you could point me to these tips you spoke about, I'd be really appreciative. |

Unless the cell site is extremely busy (or there's something wrong with it) my download tests range from 1400 to 1900 and my uploads from 80 to 110 (best upload was 121). Both of my primary cell sites have bonded T1s. If the site only has a single T1 for backhaul you'll only hit ~1200 down.
I also use speakeasy.net for testing most of the time (DC or Atlanta servers) since the results are comparable to speedtest.net's. And last I knew, Tim and I both use PC5750 aircard with Linksys router.
I did have to tweak to my newer laptop to get better d/ls. I used the TCP optimizer program from speedguide.net to analyze my system then upped the RWIN from 17,520 to 256,960. Downloads went from ~540kbps to 1400kbps and beyond. Actual d/ls (ftp, etc.) prove to be similar to the test speeds. |

Still using PC5750 but switched to Top Global 6800 router. I tried one to0 many firmware changes on my old Linksys. I get 1900 - 2200 kbs DL most of the time and 100 - 135 kbs ul.
Alltel has great service in my area. Plus I am only 1/4 mile from tower. _________________ Tim Mayhugh |

I Did a fermware for the KPC-650 and then Another for the KR1,[My first on the kr1], And my speeds are better with the kr1,[ 60-90 up and 400-600 down} in the router. In the computer the uplink is 130 to 150 and down1.2 down I wish I could get the speeds in the kr1 to match with the card in the computer. I am waiting for my contract on the 650 to end and I'm going with the 680, See what it can do! I'm in Tucson,Az area |

I am using my KPC680 for the first time today. Here are my speeds:
Download Speed: 463 kbps (57.9KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 112 kbps (14 KB/sec transfer rate)
I had hoped it would be much faster than that actually....

Hi F34R,
I am referring to the thread http://www.evdoforums.com/thread504.html
There is a tip with Dr TCP and I have seen a difference in my speeds using it. |

You may just need to tweak your TCP settings to get better download speeds. I had to on my newer laptop (see above), probably because it was initially set up for dial-up access only. Judging from your upload speed I'd say you were getting a pretty strong signal. What's your RSSI? (go to the "about" page in QLM) to find signal strength.
Another factor is cell site congestion. In my semi-rural location my speeds can drop significantly in the evening when more users are on the network. |

Ouch! That's not too good. I'm really surprised given your upload speed. So have you tried testing in different areas inside and outside of your home? |

You want down closer to the 70s to get better transmission. I think you said the Alltel rep told you you were only 3 flat miles from a cell site -- did you try confirming this on antennasearch.com or cellreception.com?
I'm asking because I know I'm about 4.5 hilly, wooded miles to one of my cell sites and I don't even need an external antenna to get a good signal (I don't remember what the dBm is, and I have to have the router in the perfect spot). When I'm at another location I'm only a mile away from the cell site and I get about -61 to -67 dBm. |
