|
|
We got BroadbandAccess in my home town on May 26, 2005. For the next 2 1/2 months, the coverage maps at Verizon showed I WASN'T in a BroadbandAccess coverage area. Around 11 weeks after getting BroadbandAccess Coverage, one of the maps at Verizon was updated (and one was not).

How true, I'm in Greenville, SC. right now posting on EVDO and according to the map, they only have nationwide:
Lord only knows how long they have had EVDO since I haven't been here for over a month. |

Well now we have proof!
I was at a Verizon meeting today and was told that the maps get updated quarterly by an independent 3rd party company.
So, this kind of acknowledges the above observance.
As someone told me on the phone the other day....
The coverage maps are a lot like a pregnancy test. If the results say yes, you are in a coverage area, however, if the results say no, that may not be accurate. Especially now, that we know they are only updated quarterly. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| I took note of the coverage maps but took my EVDO phone (I'm waiting a bit on the card, maybe for the KR1), and checked out the coverage. At least near the freeways, it seem to extend 10-15 miles beyond what the map says, and on other major roads, at least some distance. Detroit has had EVDO for a while, but it is nice to see them expand coverage. |

|
|
I'm almost ready to buy a Samsung i730 from Verizon ~ but my company may be moving to Nashville. The Verizon coverage maps show only Knoxville in TN for EVDO ~ does anybody know if Nashville is covered or on the schedule to be in the near future ? Thanks for your help. |

The map for my area here in Texas is not quite accurate. I've had some Broadband speeds for a couple of months here and I used to have nothing but national access here.
Broadband used to be close by in San Antonio by a town called Boerne and that was it. Now, even with a horrible PC 5740 card I get Broadband connection here and the maps say its not here. |

| Another Example of out dated maps is today I was in Oxford, North Carolina and also in Henderson, North Carolina, near the Virginia/North Carolina Border and both areas now have EVDO coverage and the maps for the area have not been updated. The maps still just show coverage around Raleigh-Durham, NC. |

It's unfortunate that they only update quarterly. Other carriers tend to update monthly, or at least more often than 4 times a year.
Also, with the Alltel merger, their EVDO areas are likely not included in Verizon's maps yet either... if they're even usable by Verizon devices yet. I actually travel into an area once a week where Alltel provides EVDO service and Verizon doesn't. I might check this out next time I head that way. |
