I have a Verizon Motorola e815 on which the contract has expired. The local Alltel store said they could not activate it. I searched and saw some methods for changing other models from Alltel to Verizon but none for Verizon e815 to Alltel. The procedure for the other phones looked difficult and had a big potential for causing a lot of problems. Should I visit some other stores or is there an easier way than the flashes with all the mods?
The phone is EVDO capable but I understand that 1X is all I can access via handset as modem. If I find a store tat will convert it, is there anything I need to check to make sure data is as fast as possible?
Thanks. |

I'm not very phone savvy, but I think there might be a way to do this without much pain (if you had an existing Alltel account you might be able to just do an ESN swap).
There are a lot of phone hackers over on the alltel.howardforums.com board -- you might try asking over there, too.
Also, it might be simpler to look on ebay for an Alltel e815 (they should be fairly inexpensive seeing as they're discontinued). Then you could get Alltel service with no contract. |

Thanks, Karlyn.
That's funny! That is the only other board I have looked at. It came up on the google search.
While I was over there searching before posting, I ran across a link to this:
http://www.nexaira.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=R-NXC-WMQ138AM
Looks interesting. May be common knowledge on this board and I just haven't seen it. |

That's the first I've seen of the NexAira router. Looks pretty interesting.
There's also a new Cradlepoint travel router that works with cellphones and usb modems. I thought it was pretty interesting too, given it's limitations (no external wi-fi antenna, only one Ethernet port). But how much can you expect from a router that weighs 4 ounces and is about the size of a large bar of soap? |

I saw that. Not sure if it fits my applications but something to keep in mind.
No help over at Howard. I don't think I am phonecool enough for that group. There is some intense knowledge over there concerning flashes, mods, etc. but I am not tech savey enough along those lines to ferret out the info I need.
You are right. I could get another e815 from ebay but new ones are going for over $100. To me, phones are kind of like underware; a little too personal to want a used one. I know it has to be very simple to flash the Alltel monster file but the devil is in he details (I think). |
