| The last few days I have noticed that I have EVDO coverage in Pine Bluff. I have waited so long it seems too good to be true. Can anyone else verify this? Has anyone ever heard of having EVDO service and then it being turned off. I would like to get a dedicated card and router for my house and dump my satellite service (hughesnet direcway junk!), but I need to be sure it won't go away before I shell out the bucks. I have heard of no official releases stating that PB has been turned on. Also what is Alltel's best EVDO card. I see where they have 4 released now counting the USB one. Thanks |

Welcome to the forum, slowinPB. If they are just beginning to implement EvDO in your area you will probably see it blink on and off for a couple of weeks while they continue testing. Then it should come on steady.
Hopefully Jason (aka Barren_CPM4) will stop by and confirm what's going on in Pine Bluff for you.
I have read on this forum where someone has had EvDO for a significant period then some sort of service adjustment was made at the cell site and DO coverage was no longer available to them -- but that doesn't seem to be a frequent occurrence.
I'd skip the USB card and go with either the Kyocera PC680/Novatel adapter/KR1 router or with the PC5750 and Linksys router. Do you have a laptop? If so, does it have a PCMCIA slot or an Express Card slot? |

Karlyn, is the 680/Novatel adapter plug n play? One of my laptops has the express card but older one has PCMCIA.
SlowinPB, I also had Hughesnet/Direcway before and mine was junk also. Welcome to EVDO and I hope you like it as much as I have so far (6 weeks).

I don't have direct experience with it -- just mentioned that combo since it's one that appears to work. I have the PC5750 (PCMCIA) and the Linksys router. (Unfortunately Alltel only had PCMCIA aircards when I signed up.)
It does look like it probably is -- here's the link to the adapter. |

70 miles south of you and we are doing the same.As I said in the other
post. It makes me wonder what the seceret is. Why don't they just tell
everybody when they are going to turn it on.
