I was thinking of getting alltel UTStarcom-PC5750 on ebay for like $55 . It can connect to evdo rev a and i just wanted to make sure the tower i connect to is rev a. I corrently connect with my Razor V3c With a usb cable and the windows xp dial connection (No software). So is there any like commands or software or anything i can do to make sure the version is rev a?
Also anyone hear of buying a data card on ebay and then buying a pcmcia pci adapter and using it on a desktop?
BTW do you need a voice plan to get the $59.99 unlimited data?
And do you need a contract even if you buy your own data card on ebay? |

Since Alltel is only testing Rev A in a few markets, I doubt they will have information on what type of EVDO the tower has at this time; only that it has evdo. I'm not sure what can help you there.
I currently have a desktop with a pcmcia card. It works just as well as it does on my laptop. It only cost me about 25 dollars.
If you get an aircard, it only runs the $59.95 for data. You don't need a voice plan for the card itself, even though it will have a number assigned. |

Verizon would be the better choice for service
I believe Alltel roaming on Verizon = no EVDO agreement |

i don't want verizon because of there download limit. I normally download like 5gbs in a 4 days not a month.
I talked with altel and they said they do, use verizons towers for evdo. Btu they where unable to tell me if the tower i connect to is rev a or how i cna figure out if they are.
SO idk |

If this is the case, it is the first I have heard of it. I am hesitant to believe that Verizon with a 5GB limit would allow Sprint or Alltel with unlimited data transfer to roam on their network.
Anyone have any links or sources of an EVDO roaming agreement between Verizon and Alltel?
i3ond, if you do a tracert to google, the first couple of hits should show whose tower you are hitting. |

| Unless you're in Dublin, Georgia it's not likely a Rev. A cell site. Alltel's Rev. A coverage is nearly nonexistent. |
