| I wish I could offer help, but all I can say is, it's most likely that you've voided your warranty. |

You need to get the Merlin U720 and take the MiniPCI card out of that one, since there are drivers for that when being used in an internal slot. That's the same card that the Sony TX/TZ series use for their Sprint Broadband.
I'll bet that the Sierra unit you have has drivers that are only configured to work while in the USB carrier. I'm not positive, but I believe I have seen a post on here somewhere of someone cracking a U720 open and successfully using the card.
Not to mention, you'll get the added benefit of the GPS functionality that the Novatel Merlin cards have...[/u] |

I was the first person to do undo the U720 and embed it in a Dell latitude D420.. If the 595u has the same mini-pci setup as the u720 it should work.
Does it show up in Device manager? |

| Would it matter if the mini is different in the 595U from the U720? 595U uses the Sierra Wireless MC8775 PCI Express Mini Card..can't remember what the other modem uses. Just wondering if this accounts for the issue. |

That's not true. The AC595U uses the MC5725 card. The MC8775 is the heart of the AC875U (GSM card sold by AT&T and others).
Anyway, all of the above (including Novatel) use the same form factor, PCIe. The only issue here would be a driver issue.
If you have the drivers for the MC5725, you should have no trouble installing it, as has been demonstrated by others. Laptop brand should not be a consideration either, unless your laptop has a BIOS lock on it preventing unathorized installs in the PCIe slot (IBM T60 comes to mind).

Linux might help here. You can get a "live" CD that would boot up without any changes to your hard drive. Once there, most internal busses are shown (with lots of technical information) in the various hardware manager applications.
I assume you opened the Windows device manager and it says it can't find things, and checked your BIOS settings in case something is or is not probed. |

Correct, mea culpa. I pasted in info from the wrong card, sorry.
It does sound like a driver fix should do the trick. |

| Any luck getting the 595U card to work with your laptop? I am interested in doing something similar for my Everun UMPC. |

| I'm curious to know what this hack uses for an antenna? Is it like wifi cards with the small snap in connector or is the antenna on the card's pcb? A wifi antenna won't work because it's the wrong band (2.4ghz). Evdo needs both 1.9ghz and 800/900mhz I think. |
