What alltel had me do was turn OFF mobile IP. Start access , (don't log on) hit CTRL & D , enter password... diagsmsi ... click mobile IP button, choose mobile ip off.
You card will reset ... and you should get a successful message. I had to reboot before the 680 found the network again. Good luck ... it did stop mine from going dormant |

| I could be wrong on this, and I'll need some of the more professional users to verify, but it appears that signal strength has something to do with how quickly the card goes into dormancy. When I'm at 0-1 bar, it goes into dormancy before I even have a chance to open the browser. But, at 3 and the rare 4 bars, I can read an entire page of news before it goes dormant. |

If it does any good, you're not the only one. I have mobile IP turned off all the time (as it connects faster) and still get the issue. Not all the time, but at the most annoying times (maybe 4 times a week) my KPC-680 will lock up (go dormant) and not let traffic pass through. I have to unplug the card and kill QuickLink mobile before it'll work again, also sometimes I have to reboot.
Would love to know how to fix. I thought it was just Windows..... |

| Anyone find a solution for any of this yet? I am using the KR1 and KPC680. About twice or more a day the KR1 will need to be powercycled because of it or Alltel dropping/losing the connection. Just rebooting the computer(Vista) will not do anything, it is happening with the KR1 or data card. Alltel claims the data card is fine. This two pieces do NOT work the best together from what I have read. However, this is for my company's owner and they are getting very p'd off about it. Anyone have any suggestions or things to try? Thanks |

These connections weren't really meant to be "always on" like cable or dsl although they are moving in that direction.
Alltel will drop the connection after a set amount of time based on cell site congestion. As I told you before, it's every 12 hours for my site. If congestion is severe it's more like every four hours. Routers are getting better at renegotiating the connection but I wouldn't trust this technology for mission critical applications.
I think you need to help your clients form a more realistic expectation of this technology. It's more like the early days of DSL -- back when it wasn't unusual for a DSL connection to go out for a week or so. Remember that? Or how about constant busies for dial-up? |

Yeah that all makes sense. Im just trying to hear from an Alltel data tech here to find out the drop times if they are on a schedule or anything so I can setup one of those timers to try.
I think I might just move away from the KR1 and go to the MBR1000 or something. What a pain newer technology is |

Mine drops almost exactly 12 hours after I sign on in the morning so I just reboot the router at lunchtime and I'm good for the rest of my day. (I don't leave my computer or router up and running all night.)
If your client is only getting dropped once a week it's a little easier to find a good time for a reboot. |

| It started only happening about once a week but now its a lot more frequently. Last week it took about 5 reboots in a row to get it back and it would lose it in about 2 minutes. After about an hour of foolin around it finally came on and stayed. |
