Hi guys. Hopefully someone here will have experienced the same problems as me and may know a fix Smile

I am running the Merlin S720 card in a KR1 Router. I have Router set to defaults minus wireless being turned off. Two computers and one Xbox 360 are hooked up to the KR1. I get fairly good speeds for my area. 1250down, 250up. Latency pings around 140ms. But in the MMO's I play I usually get about 180-200ms latency.

Anyways. I am unable to successfully play games on my 360 via Xbox live. I have done a test and my results say my router is NAT restricted. Also, when I check the line to my Xbox sometimes it says Half-Duplex, other times it says Full-Duplex. From what I can tell, Half-Duplex seems to show up when I'm NAT restricted. Full-Duplex shows up when I'm NAT open. I'm not sure what is changing with the KR1, or if it's something I'm doing without knowing it; to make it switch between different modes.

I've also had trouble hosting games on PC such as Diablo II. I am able to join anyones game without problems. But nobody can connect to me. I play World of Warcraft 20 hours a week and have never had any problems with the connection and latency has always been in the green/yellow.

Sorry, I always give too much information than what is needed Smile . My question is. How can I get my 360 line to go Full-Duplex and NAT open all the time? Or this just not possible?

Thanks,
Patrick

Assign a static IP to your 360 via the network settings in the setup blade. Assign the DNS server to be whatever your router's IP is, typically 192.168.0.1.

Remember this address, then go to the Advanced tab in the KR1 setup, and choose Virtual Server.

Give the rule a name, then enter your 360's address in the Private IP block. Select BOTH under the Protocol drop down. Enter 3074 for the private and public port. Repeat this for port 88. Select Always for each of the rules and apply the settings.

Go back to your 360 and select "test Xbox Live." See if you're NAT open then.

If not, leave everything the same, then under the advanced tab select DMZ and put the 360's address there as well.

This should fix your NAT problem and allow you to connect with more people while playing Live. The odds of you being connection host are really slim, however.

For your PC, you can do something much the same, you'll just need to find out what ports your online games use. Or, put your PC as the DMZ, just make sure that you have firewall and virus protection on that machine, as the DMZ puts your computer out in the open and at risk.

Again, if you try to host a game with more than 2 or 3 people, you will probably end up creating an unenjoyable and laggy experience for them.

Hope this helps, and hopefully this can be refined and made into a sticky.

I did not have to do this, nor could I find where to do this. After entering Public and Private ports as 3074 I hit Apply.

It works great! NAT is OPEN. It's a remarkable difference!

Thank you, Thank you so very much! Very Happy

You have to create a separate rule for port 88 the same way that you did for 3074.

I was having the same NAT issue several years ago with my Linksys. I could join most people, but not everyone. After a while, I found a post that said those two ports were essential for Live to function properly. If just 3074 works, then that's great too.

It would be nice if the KR1 had a port range forward, instead of individual ports, then you could just say 1-65535 (or whatever the highest port is) and give yourself more than one DMZ.

Anyhow, glad it works now. Happy gaming!
