|
|
| I just received my Franklin usb from Alltel and found this site (talk about bad timing). Anyways I need to be able to share my connection so I am going to send it back and purchase a k1 from 3gstore.com. My question is what is the best card to use with the k1? I will be adding an antenna to it also. Thanks. |

| I use a Kyocera 650 and I also use a Novatel 720 (PCMCIA) card. Both work very well. 3G has adapters and antennas. |

For Alltel and the KR1 you'd want the Kyocera KPC680 and the Novatel Express Card to PCMCIA adapter (which I think is also available at 3G). There is supposed to be a USB adapter coming soon for the KPC680 but who knows when it will show up. Also, there isn't an external antenna for it yet if you think you need one.
Small warning -- I think I read that someone is using this combination (680/adapter/KR1) successfully but I haven't done a forum search to verify (try searching on KPC680 KR1 Novatel with all terms selected). Someone posted that their 680 came with an adapter but that it doesn't work with the KR1.
The 650 Species mentioned is likely not available anymore and is limited to Rev 0 (which is okay for now but Alltel has started to implement Rev A and the 680 is Rev A capable). Unless I missed something, Alltel doesn't sell the Novatel cards. Alltel does offer a card from Hauwei but there doesn't seem to be a router that supports it.
Your other option is to go with the Linksys router instead and the PC5750.
You can also use the PC5750 with the KR1 but you might have to disable the wi-fi for stability and use either a wired LAN to share or a second wireless AP wired to the KR1. |

| Thanks for the replies. I am very new to all this so bear with me. Michael does the adaptor you mention work only for the Novatel EX720 and if so is the EX720 compatible with Alltel? And also can you use an external antenna with the EX720. |
