Hi,
I've recently gotten my 595U and am relatively satisified with it so far. Though I am a complete n00b when it comes to EVDO / antenna etc.
I live in a very old Brick apartment building, on the bottom floor, which is next to another big ol brick building, with a tree between us. The signal strength I see in my Appt is anywhere from -90dBM to -120dBM. 1 bar, 20% signal.
The network switches from 1xRTT to EVDO Rev0 to EVDO Rev A from time to time and some times, I can't get any sort of signalm, or boots me off. My antenna sits in the window as close to the outside of building as possible. I've tried different locations, different windows etc, overall my coverage is spotty. I'm using the Sprint Connection Manager v. 1.00.0069.0

I used the following map (coverage.sprintpcs.com/IMPACT.jsp) to determine my coverage. It lists my coverage as "Good", so I'm not expecting (nor do I need) blazing speeds. It's odd though, I'm in the middle of a large Metro area (St. Paul, MN), and They only have "Good" coverage? Oh well haha.

I can go outside my building in a more clear area and get decent quality signals, so I'm pretty sure it's my crazy old building.

I've read some other threads here on the forums about external antennas. I was looking at the ones at 3Gstore.com and see some antennas that have the connectors for the 595 PCMCIA card. Does the PCMCIA card and the USB version of this card have the same external antenna connector? What sort of solution would you recommend to at least make my connection more reliable.

Also, has anyone else had any issues with the NDIS driver being flakey? If I try to disable / enable the network adapter, my Windows XP will blue-screen. It's weird. Thanks in advance for any info.

i am in situation very similiar to yours. Brick old house, and i'm in GARAGE.

I went through alot of bullshit, but would I recommend for you is see about your windows telephony services. Everything having to do with dial-up connections.

I was getting ~300 down ~120 up until tech-support told me to go into telephony and enable it. Now i'm i'm getting a better signal strength (from 1 to like 3-5) and my down speed is ~380-420 down and my up speed is ~300 up. It improved my latency in WOW and my upload speeds when making websites. Hope that helps

I am also in a similar situation with spotty coverage that fades in and out and on to another connection type. When you say the tech-support told you to go into the telephony settings, what do you mean? What menu is that under? It sounds like I need to enable it also!

Thanks for the info,
Anthony

-right on my computer (or computer for vista)
-click Manage
-expand "services and applications" and click "services"
-scroll down the alphabetical list to telephony and double click it
-for "startup type" choose automatic
-click the "dependency" tab in the same window and locate/activate all other associate services listed in depedency tab.

Go into your settings for your card and set it to EVDO only not RTT. That will lock you onto the EVDO signal. Good luck.
