I've read through all the development work on OpenWRT here for the WRT54G3G-ST router. Also started reading through the normal OpenWrt forums.

Noticed many DSL users where also having problems with the more normal variants of the WRT54G router. The issue had to do with QOS and some apparently bad assumptions in Linux.

Anyway this is what I've done and from every test I've done I'm getting Full speed up and down.

Login in to the router:
Applications and Gaming -> QOS
Wired QOS - click the button for Enable

This is the important part!
Upstream Bandwidth - Select Manual, type in 3100 in the box next to it.

Bottom of the page - Save settings.

I've ran this settings for the past 3 days now.

I get the same uploads and downloads whether card is in laptop or in the router now.

Previous:
Up/Down Router - 1100 / 185
Up/Down Laptop - 1250 / 450

Now:
Up/Down Either - 1250 / 450

Just thought I'd post this to help others as I've gained a huge amount of knowledge from this site.

Seems to work well for me also. What's the rationale for the improvement?

Cool.

Does this fix only apply to gaming or does it work with everything:

browsing
email
ftp
etc.

This tweak also improved my upstream. I would always top out around 250k, but now it goes above 450k. It works for everything. I use Sprint EVDO; I have a tower less than a mile from me.

Hey Pontiaccer...

I'm in Lancaster too. I noticed an increase in upload speed after applying your fix and doing a couple-three speed tests. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know how it works out.

Thanks for posting this.

Haven't had time to test, we will tomorrow, BUT I am making this thread a "Featured thread", so it shows up on the index page of EVDOforums.com

A great post.

Thanks for sharing!

Now that I have a couple of days and 7 tests under my belt, I can report that my upload speed has pretty much doubled. Before the change, my average upload speed was ~141 kb/s (37 tests). After the change, the average has gone up to ~291 kb/s (7 tests).

Great work, and thanks for posting the fix, Pontiaccer...

FYI, I'm probably hitting the tower near the Rockmill Industrial park...
