| Thanks Pontiaccer, it works for me too. My previous numbers were 200-250 up and now I'm at 400-450 up. My downloads are similar to what they were before. |

We have been swamped today and haven't had time to test this, but we have a few people testing it later and we will also report back.
It seems encouraging from all the reports here.
Thanks to the poster for sharing his findings. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Just noticed this today. Been testing the OpenWRT release from evdo-wizard.
My results are extremely positive!
Downloads around 1200 uploads max 300.
Before I was around 900 and 180. |

My belief is that the default "auto" is reserving far too much bandwidth for QOS. Auto probably is just some hard coded defaults for switching between wan and wwan chosen for EVDO Rev0.

Is that off Wilson Road?
I'm hitting the tower out by CollegeView Acres near Marcy and RockMill Road.
Glad it works for others! |

I think that's where it is -- there might be a tower in Carroll, too. I've got a Wilson 3dB whip antenna, sitting at the focal point of a homemade tin-foil parabolic reflector. It's pointing to the NNW -- towards Rockmill/Carroll. I'm only 1.8 miles from the tower on 22, just west of the 22 exit on the bypass. I don't get a very good signal from that tower, as there's a hill and a forest between me and the tower.
When I pop the Pantech into my laptop and watch the dB levels, I get around -90 to -85 pointing the reflector/whip towards Carroll/Rockmill. If I point it SW (towards the closest tower) it bumps up into the 100s.
We've got pretty good coverage here in Fairfield Co. There are a couple of towers down around Sugar Grove, one at Clear Creek Rd and 33, and another down between Stoutsville and Amanda. I've got a buddy that lives down that way off 159, and he gets a better signal than I do. Another friend lives up on the hill at Tarkiln Rd. and gets 1100 down/2xx up with one of those antennae 3Gstore sells (it looks like a power supply fan to me!).
I'm pretty impressed with Sprint's coverage. I took my card to my brother-in-law's house 35 miles north of Pittsburgh over the weekend. The coverage map shows his property to be in a shadow, with orange EVDO coverage just outside his lot lines. I still managed to get 900k down/400 k up at his place. I also took it on a camping/canoeing trip to WV at the beginning of August. Didn't get EVDO, but got a roaming RTT signal on the banks of the S. Branch of the Potomac, 8 miles from the nearest town (Romney). Amazing...
I used to have Wildblue -- they can have my Pantech card when they pry my cold, dead fingers off it... !!!!

I was doing some testing with the new QoS setting last night and noticed that the connection would drop off for long sustained sessions.
Surfing the Internet was fine. Speedier than ever.
Playing WoW, disconnects randomly from 10 - 20 minutes of play time. I tried multiple servers. Same issue.
Tried to download some large files and got disconnects too.
Will do some more testing tonight and let everyone know.
PS - Small world. I live in Collegeview Acres. |

I've been testing over the last few days and this is pretty much representative of the improvement. While the uploads are not always going through the roof, I haven't had a ping over 120ms at any time during the tests. FWIW.

|

So it seems most people are having success. It also seems to have about the same % affect on everyone but most seem to still max out around 450k up. Just wondering did anyone thats getting 400k+ up speeds try to increase this setting to maybe like 6200? Maybe get more like 750-800k up???
Probably wishful thinking but Ive gotta ask. I'm running the original OpenWRT firmware posted and its running like a champ. I'm not gonna mess with this unless its gonna be worth it.
Thanks |

Ok, instead of 3100kbps now set to 10000kps. Best upload test yet for me.

| This did wonders with the stock Linksys firmware. Just got the router today and was disappointed with the speeds until I made this tweak. |

success for me, though I don't know how much; I've been experience packet loss, unstable latency, unstable speeds, and a generally VERY aggravating EVDO experience (can you say ditch EVDO when DSL becomes available?.......Yeah, I thought so).
Anyway, I'll just have to stay up late and directly compare the results. Initial results have been that it helps, but not as much as the OpenWRT firmware....still a good fix for the non tech-savvy and those who're too lazy/don't feel like messing with 3rd party firmware. |

| Curiosity: has anyone hooked up the router to a cable modem or dsl connection to see if the problem might be with the router and not EVDO? |
