|
|
Hi, back in January I, with the help of Verizon techs, successfully set up an Audiovox XV6600 to serve as a bluetooth DUN modem piping in internet access to a Sony U750P (seeing that a Sony U750P doesn't have a PCMCIA card slot for the Merlin V620 evdo card).
I didn't like it...it was just too spotty...connections dropped frequently, etc.
Looking at one of the threads for the Samsung i730 that included screenshots (directions for setup), it seems pretty obvious to me that the Samsung i730 was better setup for bluetooth DUN than the xv6600.
Does anyone else concur with this (perhaps someone that has tried to set up bluetooth DUN using both devices)?
And, in addition to hopefully being easier to set up than the xv6600, is the *performance* better as well? in other words, pretty solid "stay on for a long time" connections?

I hate to burst your bubble dagemsmaker but Verizon had Samsung disable the Bluetooth DUN feature on the i730 so it can not be used at all. And neither Verizon or Samsung will support any efforts to use the i730 as any kind of a modem, tethered or Bluetooth, and the 6600 remains the ONLY device Verizon will allow to have Bluetooth DUN. I know this because I had a 6600 for a month and used it as a Bluetooth DUN getting connection speeds of 500Kbs or more. When the 6600 was damaged the twits at the insurance company for Verizon replaced it with the i730 claiming it's exactly the same, but it's not.
There are two work arounds on the i730 but neither is supported. Both were posted here a while back. One involves downloading a file from Samsung to make it a USB tethered modem but that is limited to a max speed of 230Kbs. The other involves buying a Pertec SDIO Bluetooth card with Bluetooth modem (not all Bluetooth SD cards have modem proticals). |

Nice find. I dialed the number and it brought me to a screen called Data Connections. The options are
As a modem threw USB
As a modem threw Bluetooth
Internet Data call
The i730 I tried it on did not have service with verizon yet. |
