Alltel duped me. Sales told me the KPC680 would work with MAC, but all documentation is for Windows systems only.
Also Alltel data services says - yup it should work, but we don't support it and therefore have no clue how!

Do I have to return the card and raise a stink with alltel or, does anybody know how to make it work?

(new MAC book Pro with Tiger)

Do you also have Windows installed on your Mac? If not, are you near an Alltel store or do you know someone with a Windows laptop that has an express card slot that would let you install the software and activate the card? Getting the card activated is your first step.

The next step is to get the Mac to recognize the card and install the appropriate driver. (This is where my understanding is weak!) Mac's do have a mobile device driver (WWAN driver) that appear to work fairly well.

Last step is to set up a dial-up connection.* The dial-up number is #777, the username is xxxxxxxxxx@alltel.net (replace xxx's with your card's cell number) and the password is alltel.

*** Just found this at John's Hideaway via a quick google search -- looks like a more thorough step by step than what I just wrote. ***

Please come back and let folks know whether this worked for you.

*Other than some settings and field test stuff, the windows software is nothing more than a dialer in fancy packaging.

Alltel does not sell any mac dialer for kpc 680. Smith micro is the company that makes diler for MAC and windows. they have QLM for kpc 650 but not for KPC 680 yet. Right now kpc 680 does not work with MAC
