There is a Vista update from Microsoft that supposedly improves performance for 3G cards. The individual patch can be downloaded manually, shown in the link above. And it will be included with SP1 to be released in January.
For now, you need to manually install. It's not part of automated Windows Updates yet.

| Will try on my home Vista laptop later. Would be interested in Vista EVDO users to try a few speed tests before applying patch, then a few tests afterwards. Post before/after results. You might have to reboot for the change to take effect. |

| Just before I upgraded my Vista laptop, I was getting 700K-1.4Mbps. After the upgrade/reboot, I didn't exceed 1.4Mbps but wasn't getting as low as 700K, in the same location. A few tests aren't enough to make any conclusion but perhaps the patch improves the average rather than max speed. |

I installed the patch and noticed a 100-200 kbps boost on my speed tests. I'm now getting between 650-1000kbps where as before I was getting 500-800kbps down. My uploads went from 50-100 to 100-150 kbps.
This makes me |

| I've download it and test it, I found out that this update have nothing to do with optimizing the speed of your internet. But rather making it stable. I made a couple of test thru speedtest.net before the update. I got different readings of my internet and it flactuated, I got as slow as 300kbps sometimes I got a burst speed of over 1 mb/s. After update I got more stable reading ranges to 700kbps thru 900. Better than 300 kbps and 1mb/s fluctuation. |

a little late, but even if this patch is included in SP1
I found the patch slowed my throughput considerably.
When rolling back TCPIP.SYS I got back my speed.
How does that saying go?....
