Backstory:
I was using a Verizon 5750 in my laptop with ICS as a gateway. My Linksys WRT-54G was connected to the LAN port of the Dell, spreading the signal to the rest of the house. Performance, while better than the previous 384/128 I had, was marginal. I had numerous drops and could count on doing a reconnect multiple times a day.
Also, I had high latency ~50-75% of the time when playing on Xbox Live.
I just got the KR1 up and running Wednesday night. So far I'm really pleased. I've only had one small issue with restrictive NAT, which was solved by port forwarding and connecting my Xbox directly to the KR1. The Linksys is still in place to serve two hardwired PCs and two laptops. My speeds are up around a solid 1mbps/500kbps, with low latency. Also, the ability to connect/reconnect through a browser interface, as opposed to walking into the other room, is a huge plus. |
