Hi Guys! I am brand new to the EVDO world and these forums.

I just purchased a Novatel V620 through Verizon with their service and am confused about some things. I am running this on an IBM T42 Thinkpad.

I have Venturi disabled and I am getting transfer rates of @40 kbps. Is this normal? I am connected to the Broadband access, my signal strength is at 80% and it says that I should be getting higher speeds.

I am not using VPN or have anti-virus scanning. I did see the TCP optimizer but that is not supported on my card. Verizon suggests that I go to the KPC650.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm running a V620 on a Dell Desktop Dimension 4550 with Venturi off. I'm using an external antenna at 100% right now (normally 93%).

Not sure where you tested but try the following so we are on the same playing field:

2WIRE: http://www.2wire.com/?p=154&inc=bm500&3406
My Stats Today: 472.20 Kbps

BroadBand: http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest?loc=2
My Stats Today: 415 down 39 up

CNET: http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_meter/7004-7254_7-0.html
My Stats Today: 256 Kbps

Also - get that Virus program running and consider a FireWall!

What really concerns me is the transfer rate for downloads.

Normally I get about 300k at home with my cable modem. I understand that this may be less but I am getting about 40 kbps for every transfer rate.

I did the speed tests and I am getting between 176kbps to 510 kbps.

These downloads are from sites with no queues or bandwidth restrictions.

The transfer rate starts out high but then dips drastically.

Any thoughts?
