|
|
I have flashed my WRTG3G-ST with the Firmware listed at the beginning of this topic and followed the instructions. So far I have not been able to get the Pantech PX 500 to connect since.
I need some help. I am willing to go thru the process and keep openwrt and whatever GUI I ended up with however; if I can't get theis to work I will have to find a way to get the old firmware back on the Router.
I have read thru quite a bit of the info here but cannot seem to get this flash to work.
I would really appreciate some help with this, It is driving me crazy. |

|

Hey all,
I get my evdo card from my work. They originally gave me a pantech 500 and i got the wrt54g3g-st v1 for it. I don't think the v2 was even out when i bought it. The pantech went dead last week and they gave me a sierra compass 597 USB to replace it. I really didn't want to spend another $150 on a new router and thought I'd try openwrt. I read through this entire thread and a many more. I installed...
10_Xopenwrt-54g3g-v82squashfs.trx
I put in my old pcmcia usb card and it recognized it just fine. So now the wrt54g3g has usb ports. When i put in the 597, it creates an error saying it's missing the file sierra.o. I see there's a sierra wireless package for another branch, but couldn't find an image it went with. I'm not nearly skilled enough to make my own image. Poking around the forms, i find many barely understandable and confusing mentions of the sierra.o but nothing i could figure out or use. I found this mentioned somewhere...
sierrawireless.com/faq/ShowFAQ.aspx?ID=601
So theroratically, i just have to make the driver for the card and all would be good. I see TONS of mentions of openwrt how to's talking about doing makes, but for the life of me, i can not get it to run on my install. 1st off, none of the images i found, even non evdo one's, did not have make installed. if found a make package on a third party site, but when i tried to run it it kept saying ...
| Code: | root@OpenWrt:/opt/bin# ls
make
root@OpenWrt:/opt/bin# ./make
ash: ./make: not found |
no matter what i did, it didn't even act like make was there. i hit apoun a site mentioning some times you have to do a sh 1st. so i tried that...
| Code: | root@OpenWrt:/opt/bin# ls
make
root@OpenWrt:/opt/bin# sh ./make
./make: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected |
but it's acting more like it's a shell script then a binary.
I was even going to try to do the sierra make on my linux server, but I'm having such a bad tech weekend that i can't connect to it for some reason. not sure if the sierra.o it made would even work, but I'm running out of things to try.
So the main goal is just to get the 597 to recognize on openwrt. if some one has a better suggestion let me know. after that, is there a sierra.o for openwrt some where and if not how the heck can you get openwrt to run a make?
thanks. |

Hi, I've been using OpenWRT on my WRT54G3G with a Sierra Wireless AC595 card for quite a while now. I think the OpenWRT release is the r82, although the firmware line shows just a "-" in system information. It's quite stable -- Good Work! I've had it running non-stop for months. I only have to hit the WWAN button to reconnect the card once in a great while. Once loaded, I was very pleasantly surprised how stable it is versus some of the other custom router firmwares I've tried (e.g., Sveasoft).
Two questions:
1) I have never been able to utilize OpenDNS servers. When I click yes from Network/WAN-LAN menu, followed by save changes, the change does not save so there are no changes to apply. Any suggestions?
2) Any way to add (or adjust) a jitter filter?
Thanks! |

A) I had my WRT54G3G with openwrt r82 working fine with EVDO/CDMA (Verizon), but then tried to switch to an HSPA/GSM (AT&T) card. I did not get that to work, and now can't even get the old card to work anymore. I'm getting this error for mobile network status, and the blue wrt light never goes solid (just keeps blinking):
ifconfig: ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found ifconfig: ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found ifconfig: ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
What might be the problem, and what could I do to get my old card working again? I have already tried reflashing back to stock and then back to openwrt, but still the same symptom.
B) Completely different issue, but has anyone had success using a particular pcmcia to usb card with a usb modem or tethered cell plugged into that? _________________ AC595, WRT54G3G |

Issue A (above) SOLVED -- this issue turned out to be a problem with some NVRAM values not really getting reset when switching between GSM and CDMA devices, surprisingly not even cleared via reflash, but can be fixed by choosing manual instead of a particular carrier to reset values for both GSM and CDMA types, and then changing to correct carrier. _________________ AC595, WRT54G3G |

Why not just tftp the linksys bin firmware? If you really need the linksys firmware in trx, it's maintained at the link below (BTW, I tried it and can confirm that it's good -- er, that is it's a good copy of the awful stock firm). OpenWRT images incl r82 are also kept there (r82 needs permissions fix, r75 does not):

Ok, just installed and router doesn't want to connect...
First i installed r75 then upgraded to r82 but the info.sh page on that is broken so i went back to r75. I understand that Option cards are controlled via the comgt package but mine doesn't seem to want to work (network is t-mobile uk and card is an Option GT Max). The comgt package in this build of openwrt is 0.3.1, but 0.32.1 is available, should i update comgt? How do i access the error log?
Maybe i have some of the details wrong..
User: user
Pw: wap
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
Dialup No.: No idea, tried with and without *99***1# (because all the others had this
Pin: n/a
Set to GSM not CDMA but the option card does say CDMA on the back but has a sim slot, so i'm not sure although on the default linksys firmware i dont have to fill out any APN or user/pw, it does it all automatically (using -EM firmware).
EDIT: CDMA doesn't work either, but using cardctl status in ssh gives no errors and says there's something there.
Can anyone help? |
