WiMax World Prelude To XOHM Kickoff
| Quote: | | During the last week of September, more than 10,000 are expected to gather in Chicago, USA for the 5th annual WiMAX World conference. WiMax.com sources say to expect an announcement in Chicago that XOHM is accepting customer orders. The first half of October will likely be filled with pomp and circumstance activities, including retail kiosk openings and formal launch events. Live demonstrations of WiMAX services are planned by POSDATA and perhaps another preview of XOHM's Chicago network will be in order from Sprint and Motorola. |

Sprint selects Ciena’s Carrier Ethernet platforms as one of the backhaul solutions for the XOHM WiMAX network.
Sprint has deployed the system in the initial installations of the XOHM networks in Baltimore/Washington and Chicago.
"After evaluating multiple routing and switching options for the XOHM backhaul network Ciena’s Carrier Ethernet platforms were selected for their consistency with XOHM’s backhaul network architecture. To simplify operations, Ciena’s Ethernet Services Manager accelerates service activation and simplifies management of services, configurations, inventory and network topology."

Wow, the rates look great if this is correct...
| Quote: | | The pricing plans will be a change from what traditional cell phone and Internet service providers typically offer their customers. Sprint will offer a $10 "daily pass," a $25 "home" monthly plan and a $30 "on-the-go" monthly plan for mobile devices. |
But of course EVDO users will want a combo card, which I suspect would still be $60/month. I would hope the 'pick 2 for life' option at $50/month would change in the future to allow as many WiMAX devices as you want for $50/month, but only allow two to be used simultaneously.
It's a little disappointing they don't have then entire I695 loop covered in Baltimore. Would hope that more of Chicago is done than this.
Here is coverage tracker. Note that modems have more coverage ability than devices.

FCC hopes for two deal decisions by year-end
Monday, 29 September 2008, telegeography
| Quote: | | The US telecoms regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has said it will try to complete reviews of two major telecoms tie-ups before the end of this year. The regulator is currently studying Verizon’s proposed USD28 billion acquisition of Alltel and is also looking at the planned WiMAX joint venture between Sprint Nextel and Clearwire. |

Haven't been able to find anything on caps for Xohm but they do not want you to burden the network..
http://www.xohm.com/en_US/xohm-policies/acceptable-use.html
In other words, they have a right to restrict but is not specifically stating any limits. They probably want to stay inline with DSL/cable providers rather than EVDO limits. |

You really have to remember you're talking about 2 seperate techologies when it comes to caps. EVDO was not designed to be used as a household replacement, all telecoms who offer it have made it clear. It was designed to use on the go once and a while. Thats why there is a cap on EVDO, they never meant for you to download 100 movies a month.
On the flip side thats why Comcraptic and TW joined the clearwire endeavor, so they could offer things like movie downloads and such in area's where they didn't have a foot print. Putting a cap on Wimax would be slitting their throats....unless it's like comcraptics cap of 256G. |

| Now that Xohm is officially released, are there any testers out there that can report performance depending on conditions? What about latency? |
