My husband and I both have our own EVDO cards, me for my MacBook Pro and him for his G4 powerbook. His u720 is not working (it is in the middle of being replaced) and despite help from knowledgeable people, we CANNOT get him to a place where he can connect to the internet through my connection.
We just followed the link (http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/33/63/) that led to the solution at the top of this thread, and indeed, he is clearly connected to my computer through a specific network we set up. No problem there. We have internet sharing checked.
We have gotten to this place several other ways yesterday and today, and here is where we run into the problem. No matter how we get here, he does not connect to the internet. Again, he connects via airport to my computer but not to the internet.
Reading the posts on this forum, I just repaired permissions on my hard drive. Still nothing.
We are clearly stumped.
Any ideas for us?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Michael.
First, my husband dealt with Victor about his u720 and was very pleased with his help and sticktoitiveness (sp?)!
But-- we already had those DNS servers on both our computers. No luck here.
It feels as if we have missed one little thing somewhere, but that feeling helps me not at all!!
Anything else?
Thanks again,

A few more things to try:
On computer without EVDO Card:
- Network -> Airport -> TCP/IP is set for "Using DHCP"
- click the "Renew DHCP Lease" and make sure an IP Address is displayed to the left of the button.
On computer WITH EVDO Card
- Make sure firewall is off (System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall) _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Did all that, and still nothing.
But .... on the Sharing Panel, when I clicked "firewall", it told me that there is other firewall software on this computer and that I needed to turn it off before I could use the Mac OS firewall. I have searched everywhere I can imagine for other firewall software, and I can't imagine where it could be for me to turn off.
Can't imagine where else to look. I'm assuming that it is really on, or else it would let me do the firewall on that panel.

| You have a Macbook Pro - so are you running parallels? If so (depending on how the network is setup) parallels runs it's own firewall to auto configure networking for the windows side. |

Just installed Parallels yesterday but it is not on. I have not opened it since it was installed. In that case, would a firewall from it be able to be active?
Thanks!

Yes, just having it installed will have it "on".
See:
System Preferences -> Network -> Show Network Port Configurations -> Turn off the Parallels options that are listed. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Well, I did turn off the two Parallels boxes in port configurations, had to reboot, and they are gone. So is the message that says I have other firewall protection running. But..........still can't connect.
Tom is connected to my computer, and his network systems pref panel says (under show network status): "airport is connected to the network bcg computer"(which is me), and then it also says:"you are connected to the internet via airport".
But, when he tries to open anything (browser or email), he doesn't connect!javascript:emoticon(' ')
As always, we are always appreciative of your help.

We are networked, but not without three more hours. I have no idea what the problem is, but its still there.
My son came back to town (he is a computer tech person), and he managed to get it up and running, but through a manual method. We essentially have to set it up each time. We have go get on terminal to begin and end. Its will get easier as we learn it, but it is certainly cumbersome.
Thankfully, we're expecting our replacement u720 this week. That will be wonderful.
If there is more info you guys have, we'd love it.

I presume you did this but I will mention it:
On the Mac with the card, open System Prefs and click on the Sharing icon. Click the Internet tab.
Share your connection from: Novatel Wireless EXPD CDMA.
Click the Airport checkbox.
Click the Airport Options... button. This is where you are probably missing a setting. The two computers have to be set to the same channel.
Click Start button. This dims the other options.
I get the Other Settings notice and clicking on the More Info button tells me to Enable Personal Web Sharing to allow others to share this connection. That is the third checkbox under the Services button. After checking that it tells me that I am sharing my connection. |
