I am confused as to how to charge my Sierra 595U. I will disconnect from the net and let it sit connected to my computer for a few hours (it says 30 minutes) and it will flash from red to green when I do that. then when I reconnect it will come back on red.
How do I charge it? Do I need to power the modem off to chrage it? it doesn't really explain in the instructions.
I'm not in a fringe area. my signal ranges from -69 to -76.

all it says for red led is
"This situation may occur under extreme usage conditions when you’re transmitting data in a coverage area with a weak signal.

Wait until the Power LED turns green.

Resume your connection.

If the Power LED still goes off, and then comes on again and stays red, charge the battery for at least 30 minutes."
under charging the modem it says
"To charge the modem battery:

Ensure the USB modem is inserted into a USB slot of your computer.
(If your computer’s USB slot is vertical, use the docking station.
Do not use the modem in a USB hub or in a USB slot on a keyboard.)

When the modem is properly inserted, the Power LED is lit, and the modem’s battery starts to charge.

When the battery is charged, the Power LED is green."

When I do that as i said it just flashes red to green red to green and then when i reconnect i comes back on red

Have you tried different USB ports?
It almost sounds like your modem could be defective.

well its weird. it goes red. But I can be online like 8 hours after it goes red and i never get discoed and connection speed never slows down. maybe a defective red light? i unplugged it from the usb and plugged it back in when it was blinking red and now the green light stays on.

I do a lot of gaming which uploads a little bit, but not as much as downloading. Its weird though, because the red light can be on for hours on end. like 4-5 hours and it does not effect performance at all.

If it's not affecting performance it sure sounds like a defective light. You might want to consider having it replaced because if that's indeed the problem chances are greater of there being further little glitches pop up as time goes by. Just my thoughts on it.
