|
|
| Having an issue with my iMac's software update utility. In working with Apple tech support and trying everything possible, it was narrowed down to my internet connection. I have a Pantech PX-500 into the KR1. Before that however, I had a Merlin S620. When I first got the router I was able to get software updates with the S620. After several months had passed I was then unable to get any software updates. After I got the new Pantech for Rev. A capability it did not make a difference. The only firmware update I did was 1.010 to allow the KR1 to function with the Pantech card. I took the iMac to a neighbor's house, connected to his internet service and software update worked perfect. It's either the KR1 or something is going on with Sprint. I get a "networking error - 1005" error that says I'm not connected to the internet. I can download and surf normally otherwise. Can't figure this out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

I'm having the same issue. It's been going on for a few weeks now. I'm using a U720 on my MBP

| I am also getting the same error with software update. I have a u720 usb modem and sprint. I also am having a problem with weather bug lite getting data for my desktop. This has to be something that sprint has done, because all my Mac's started having the same problem. I will call support and see if I can get any answers. This started about two weeks ago for me. |

| Thanks for the info. This helps narrow the problem down more. It seems to point to Sprint if this happens with a U720 connected to a MBP. I presume that should rule out the KR1. I'm still working with Apple tech support on this issue and will be calling them again today. I'll post any helpful resolutions. I've tried to search for the error on the net but all I come up with is that people get this in Safari. I never see this error any other time or in any other browsers or apps. It's annoying having to go out and get software updates from Apple website. |

| Ok, It seems it's not Sprint. Another neighbor just got Sprint, also has the Pantech PX-500 card, but he has a Linksys router. I connected wirelessly to his Linksys and Software Update worked perfect. I think the next step might be to find out what the default settings are on the Linksys and compare to KR1.....would they be any different? Next would be to buy the Linksys and try it with my card. The only other variable here is that he has a different Home Agent than me because I started service in another state before moving here and it didn't change. |

| Has anyone having the problem above tried Mac Software Update on another type of internet connection, say T-1, Comcast, etc? If so, does the problem persist there or is it just Sprint Wireless Broadband. |

It's not limited to the KR1, I have the Linksys WRT54G3G-ST with a Novatel S720 on Sprint. I have the same problem on all 5 of my Macs. Only one is Intel based the rest are older G4 systems.
Sorry others are having this problem but relieved I'm not alone. Anyone hear about a fix from Sprint please post it. I will do the same. |

I had a company supplied fractional T1 and it worked fine, only the Sprint EVDO seems to have this issue. A VPN connection via the Sprint circuit also works, albeit painfully slow. |

The problem is not in the Sprint Network, nor is it (physically) in the devices you are using. The trouble lies in the current versions of OS X and the WWAN drivers. I have tested my U720 on my MacBook Pro using OS X 10.4.6 through 10.4.10 with the same problem of certain files not being able to download properly through Software Update. However, when I tested it with the 2007 WWDC build of OS X 10.5, there were NO problems with using SU to download ANY files.
There is a similar issue where certain builds of 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 can not sync using .Mac. It is a matter of a compatibility break caused by the development of OS X 10.5.
Apple Software Engineering has been notified of both issues. Although it is doubtful they will do anything about the .mac sync problem since it works fine in 10.4.8 and higher. |

| Thanks to all for feedback concerning this issue. Sounds like Leopard will be the fix to this problem. |

Assuming a later build of Leopard doesn't break it there also. |

That bug does sound plausible for those using the PCMCIA card directly in their Mac, which would use those drivers, but how does that explain the issue when using a WiFi connection to a Linksys or Kyocera router? Both of those solutions are Linux based and simply act as gateways between the WiFi connected Mac and the EVDO network. We have 5 Macs and only one of them has ever had the card configured locally (the G4 powerbook). The rest are WiFi only and don't use the WWAN drivers. All fail to update now.
Either way, we all hope that a fix is coming. |

| I am also having the same issues with my MacBook Core 2 Duo. The issue must reside on Sprints side because I am using PX-500 (ICS) through a ZyXEL P-330W configured as a switch. I am able to download and install updates on any other internet connection, although I have yet to try another Sprint PCS broadband connection. |

Just wanted to bring this to the front and post that I am having the same problem with my MacBook and Sprint U720 via a KR1. Odd thing is that I have no issue downloading updates directly off of Apple's website.
And not all of the programs using Software Update cause a problem. I can usually update the OS with no problem. But applications updates almost always result in a network error.
Has anyone found the root of the problem and a solution? |

| What you describe is my exact situation on two iMacs in my house. From what was said in a previous post, it seems as though it might be fixed with Leopard (?) We'll see if that does it. |
