This morning I was unable to access the Internet despite being connected. I tried through the KR1 router and then through directly connecting my Merlin U720 to the laptop (Macbook). They each showed I was connected, but no pages or mail program could load.
Minutes later, I was on at blazing speeds (for me, not for everyone), around 1127 DL/278 UL.
Then minutes later, again unable to have anything load, although both ways (router and laptop) showed I did connect successfully.
Then, at this moment, I'm fine again.
Should I assume they are monkeying with the tower? That's my thought, since the hardware seems fine.
If EVDO is to make significant impact, it just has to be a more stable system. |

We had a few tech calls yesterday from customers about this exact topic.
They were connected, they could ping, but no web sites would come up. We assumed a DNS issue, but same problem when skipping Sprint's DNS servers and using Open DNS. Strange thing, we could ping our main web server's IP. If we typed in http://1.2.3.4 (avoiding DNS, if a problem) and it wouldn't come up. Very strange.
If you are experiencing this, please post your:

| This is interesting -- there's a thread in the Alltel forum that I think may be related. See the first post by TMayhugh; he was roaming on Sprint in Columbus, OH and also couldn't get his browser to connect. |

Thanks for that link to the Alltel forum, karlyn. I'm definitely within range of Columbus, so it seems likely to me that this is a local issue. Hopefully to be fixed soon. |

It would be interesting to know if they can use any other internet service (ftp, irc, ssh, https) besides HTTP. I've had issues in the last few weeks where depending on what IP address I get, I could not connect to any HTTP sites, although all other internet traffic worked.
It almost seemed to be a badly configured in-line HTTP cache. Could be part of Sprint's 'improvements' to their network.
(Service works fine for me this morning using the KC HAs) |

I can connect fine, but speeds are awful; I normally get 1270-1280k down and 400-450k up.
Now, however, I'm getting around 450k down and 400-450k up. |

Strange happenings indeed. But there have been several threads over the past few weeks about this very same topic. I started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago myself when I experienced the very same thing here in SE Ga.
Makes me wonder what Sprint's up to. Upgrades? Just normal maintenance? The part that drives me crazy is that Sprint refuses to acknowledge the problem even exists!! |

Sutherland, VA 23885. So bad this morning, I nearly pulled my (sparse) remaining hair out.
This is my first post, and I just want to thank those who run this site and those who post on it for a ton of help and reassurance. _________________ time2matter |

| Could be weather related. I see a lot of cloud formations up that way on the weather map. Weather and sun spots affect radio signals negativitely. Try AM radio vs FM radio during a rain/thunderstorm. |

My workaround is using VPN to connect to my office network. It connects using an IP address. Once connected it seems that DNS runs through the VPN connection.
This problem hasn't happened to me in the past few days (knock on wood) but it has happened as recently as Sunday evening. |

jack, it's hard to think this problem could be weather related because I would think that the weather issues would keep me from connecting at all. The weird problem here is when SCM shows that I'm connected as does the KR1 when I'm connected through it, but I can't download a web page or download email. It's like being on the internet but not being able to surf the internet.
I guess it's not impossible that it's weather related although not necessarily storm related. We've had triple digit temps lately with the heat index around 115 and very little storm activity yet I've experienced this problem on several occasions including again this afternoon for about 20 minutes. |

I've noticed there's been a lot of problems ever since Sprint's last firmware update (for the cards), PRL update, and SCM update....it makes me wonder if it's related to that.
Either that, or Sprint is preparing their network for something (massive upgrade, QoS, bandwidth upgrades, etc)....
The first thing that comes to my mind is that they're prepping their network for WiMAX, though it very likely could be something entirely different... |

| I totally agree with you Fox. I believe there is certainly something going. Seems like Sprint got some splaining to do!!! It did all seem to start up with the release of the last firmware/SCM/PRL upgrade. |
