This topic has been open since 8/07. So as a recap...
Michael was checking with Sprint, several people have suggested changing HAs, Area7 (Atlanta I think) seems to be the worst. Is that where we stand?
If I need to change my HA, is there a suggested one for someone in NC (my understanding is that proximity, like size, matters). I supposedly have the newest SCM, do I need to 'downgrade'?
Thanks! |

| I live in Nashville and was assigned ATL ha's. My speed is faster with the new ha which are kansas and indiana, which are both further away. I think you need the old scm to change the ha, haven't tried to change with the new scm. There is a thread here some where on how to do it. Start with moving your cursor over the GO button on the scm and type ##DATA (hold shift down while typing), a new window will open and you'll need your activation code to change anything. It's not the esn/meid or the msid but a 6(i think) digit number you used when you initialized your device. |

| If I remember correctly, there is someone who lives in puerto rico that changed their ha to kansas and netted speed improvements. |

| Thanks, I'm just trying to get a consensus on which HA and any other suggestions at this point. Plenty of helpful postings, hoping to summarize in one spot. |

I changed my HA from .241.76 -> 81.76 primary
.249.76 -> 89.76 secondary
I had to backgrade my SCM to version 3.08.013 from version 3.09 to get my new HA to stick. I did all of this because of the port 80 blocking. So I changed my HA from Area7 (Atlanta/NC?) to Kansas. I am not worring about performance I just wanted rid of the port 80 blocking. Besides changing your HA should only have marginal speed affects as these servers are connected together at fiber speeds. I believe the concensus was that at 1Rxtt type connections it really mattered but with Rev A and fiber backbones sprint has it should no longer make much difference which HA you have defined.
I have much more a problem getting any consistant speed tests as you can run them multiple times back-to-back and see more differences than you will by changing your HA's. So how valuable is your time? I would just pick one other than your current one and see if it helps.
I swapped mine yesterday morning and so far no problem..... Before that it was several times a day. |

The best "real world" speed test I've found is how long it takes to load CNN You can certainly measure any tweaks you've done by observing this value. |

3 FULL Days and no port blocking after changing my HA. If everyone changes their HA's and the problem goes away will sprint still fix it??
It appears to have done the trick for me. Before I was averaging a port block every few hours......
Out of curiosity I switched my HA back to .241 and .249 --> port blocked again after about 30 minutes. Switched it back to .81 and .89 |

So changing to KS seems to be the game (although I saw someone early in the thread with problems there). If we all change to KS, do we run the risk of performance problems?
I think I saw a list somewhere of available HAs but I don't recall where.
I haven't checked on getting SCM, I assume its a download from sprint.com, remove from windows and re-install...
Thanks everyone! |

OR, maybe spcs finally got the message... it's been 24 hours now and not a single drop, even though I haven't changed a thing. Zowie!
My PC lost its PSU a few weeks ago but I have another even newer PC right next to me for a month and I haven't even bothered to load the OS. So changing the HA for me is a several day long chore that I just don't want to deal with.
[edit: running mac, hence the dependence] |

I'm not holding my breath on sprint. I also agree they owe me a refund for all the disruption. I'll just remember at the end of contract time or when the 'next big thing' (4G?) in wireless comes along.
I have many days when things are fine, then bang, a really lousy day. Usually when I need to get some work done. My wife teaches online and she is about to kill me. She'd rather eat the ETF and go back to 200k microwave. I refuse to give up!
Guess theres no place like home, KS here we come! looks like I have 3.0.2.xx so I should be good to go.
I'll post on status. |

I'm near Nashville, the PORT 80 problem just started. I'm going to try some different HA'a, I'm on Rochdale, IN now, it gave me the best speed.
Any Suggestions or is trial and error the best way to determine the best HA for my area.
Thanks

I'm pulling from the Indiana HA, and just started experiencing this problem 2 days ago....I called up Sprint to report it, and they turned around and blame it on me/my operating system.
It was really strange too; I would reset (honestly) about 5-10 times before I would get a path that wasn't blocked...only to have end up being blocked, anyway, 5-20 minutes later.
I gave up and switched my HA to Chicago...which instantly fixed my problem.
I pointed all these things out, but the tech still refused to acknowledge it as their own problem.....simply because it didn't appear on her stupid little computer. |

since receiving my s720 and my linksys router for about a week of owning this and 4-6 hrs on phone with sprint and saying "it must be something on your end", I finally found evdoforums and found out some real answers, anyway my area is
dry ridge ky 41035 and ip is 70.9.93.206
hope they can fix this issue or i will return equipment and cancel, 30 evaulation period end comming quickly. my donload speeds are:
400-700 dn and 70-150 up. I am thinking of ordering and antenna soon and will hopfully increase my speeds.
thanks |

They were connected, they could ping, but no web sites would come up. We assumed a DNS issue, but same problem when skipping Sprint's DNS servers and using Open DNS. Strange thing, we could ping our main web server's IP. If we typed in http://1.2.3.4 (avoiding DNS, if a problem) and it wouldn't come up. Very strange.
