It's system/software/modem independent. I've seen it on Windows and Linux, and in this thread it's been reported using a router as well... |

| Quote: | | Having an issue with my iMac's software update utility. In working with Apple tech support and trying everything possible, it was narrowed down to my internet connection. I have a Pantech PX-500 into the KR1. Before that however, I had a Merlin S620. When I first got the router I was able to get software updates with the S620. After several months had passed I was then unable to get any software updates. After I got the new Pantech for Rev. A capability it did not make a difference. The only firmware update I did was 1.010 to allow the KR1 to function with the Pantech card. I took the iMac to a neighbor's house, connected to his internet service and software update worked perfect. It's either the KR1 or something is going on with Sprint. I get a "networking error - 1005" error that says I'm not connected to the internet. I can download and surf normally otherwise. Can't figure this out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks |
I posted this in another thread and then found this one. I'm wondering if this issue I'm having may be related. One thing Apple had me do was ping one of their sites while trying to download updates through Software Update. I was able to ping continuously but still got a networking error from software update. Happens evertime and on multiple Macs and even a Vista laptop when trying to download an iTunes update.
Thanks |

Show MyIp - FireFox Plugin Shows your IP address on your status bar. Yes it works through a router. Find it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4530
My normally stable, solid connection running on an XP SP2, notebook, exhibited the following this AM.
Connected to Internet and got to Google search page but would go no further. Managed to load Speedtest.net and click on a server for a speed test got a 335 ms latency (more than twice my normal expected latency) and got no further the download test didn't even start.
Disconnected and reconnected then it worked fine for a while but with an initial 225 ms latency instead of in the 130 to 155 ms that I have grown accustomed to. Download/Upload was 1100-1250/193-250. But that isn't the end. After I finished my download (for work) using a non http setup (don't ask me what kind of setup it is cause I don't know but I downloaded about 8 Mb while my Internet browsers (Firefox and I.E. 6) couldn't get past the first google.com page. Then I did another speedtest.net test and after 10 minutes running the test my results are 340 ms latency, download is showing 677 kbps with 91% of the download test complete (after over 10 minutes.)
IP Address for this session was 68.27.76.155.
HAs are 68.28.57.77 and 68.28.57.77
Ping from command prompt = 293 ms to google.com
Zip is 95020 |

First, the point is being able to get an IP address when HTTP is being blocked. I'll pretty much guarantee that the firefox plugin is using HTTP to get the IP information.
Second, the problem this thread is addressing is port 80 completely blocked. You'd never get to the first google page. Or any other web page. If I were a betting man, I'd say your downloads and speed tests are failing because your modem is disconnecting/reconnecting. Turn off the auto-reconnect in the Sprint connection manager, and see if it goes back to 'disconnected' at any point. |

Please keep this thread on topic.
As stated, you will not even get to a web page at all, BUT you can ping and do other type of traffic (FTP, etc.). You can access a web page on port 8080 (if a server is running), so it is a connected and working, it appears that port 80 is blocked or a Sprint Proxy is having problems.
When you are being blocked on port 80, type the following URL in:
http://209.242.15.88:8080/
DOes it ask you to login with a name & password, well then port 8080 is working, just not port 80.
Please only report when you are having the problems reporting in this thread, include your:
city, state, zip
IP Address that was assigned to you OR the HA that you are using.
Other posts that report other problems/issues will be removed from this thread. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I've had the same problems with SU but not with downloading the software via Safari. This is not a new issue as people have reported problems over the years while others have never had a problem. I had not until last week or so.
There are villanous people out there who enjoy messing with the internet.
It may still be a Windows issue if all of the sites having the problems are running Windows and the servers run windows and etc. There's nothing like using software available to every villanous person in the world... |

I received a reply back from my contact at Sprint.
I cannot copy and paste the exact response, as the engineer that I have been talking, doesn't speak for Sprint and wouldn't want to be quoted, but he started off by saying...
| Quote: | | There were some issues found and corrected. |
More was in the email reply, but I want to keep this person's identity hidden - so he can help us in the future
Not sure how long it will take to resolve itself, or if it is already resolved.
If anyone has the specific problem mentioned here, please post it and only it.
Once again, EVDOforums rocks, Sprint acts quickly. Thanks to all those that posted details on this problem and helped Sprint isolate it. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

More from our contact, it looks like it is fixed
| Quote: | | The fix should be for all users on those HA(s) that were fixed. While the problem wasn't in the HA, it was in a piece of equipment that they transverse. |

If you can, ask if it was a piece of security equipment. I'd like to know how close my guesses came... |

| interestingly enough, I just noticed there's a new SCM for the S720 available, too (and I just updated 2 weeks ago)...I wonder if that has anything to do with it, too. |

No problems all day in OS X.
Booted into XP and my Admin account and could not open a site.
Logged off and logged into my user account and no problems.
Perhaps the problem lurks within user preferences for network and some of the other stuff?
Oh, I just did the Boot Camp 1.4 update. |

| just had all HTTP traffic blocked; was using 68.28.153.76 as my HA (Roachdale, Indiana); not matter how many times I would power off and power back on, I still couldn't get it back; so I put the S720 into my laptop and opened the connection manger, changed my HA to 68.28.153.77 (second HA for Roachdale, Indiana); this solved the problem......I then immediately reverted back to my original HA, and it was fine too...hmmm. |
