First time poster.

I have a recently purchased D-Link DIR-655 router that I use as a hardware firewall. I'm considering Sprint EVDO Rev A, which is the only 2-way broadband available where I live (cable has broadband downstream, POTS up; no DSL, no other wireless broadband). The Sierra U595 is looking like a possible choice for an EVDO modem.

Question is, does the following have a chance of working: Plugging the U595 into a USB-to-RJ45 adapter (Macally sells such an adapter with its "LP-combo" USB combo kit), then connecting the RJ45 end of the adapter to the input of the DIR-655 router?

If this doesn't have a prayer, anyone know if the U595 likes the D-Link DIR-450?

Thanks in advance for any information on this, particularly the first alternative - I'd hate to abandon the DIR-655 unless I absolutely have to.

No hope of using the U595 in a USB to RJ45 adapter as you described. No hope at all. You have to remember that all of the EVDO devices are basically modems: EVDO wireless modems to be sure, but modems nonetheless. There has to be software that knows how to tell the modem to dial and connect. That's why special EVDO routers exist.

I don't believe the U595 is supported by the DIR-450 yet. The U720 is since May. Don't remember if any of the other EVDO routers (KR-1, Linksys, or Top Global) supports the U595 or not.
