|
|
| Quote: | Palm and Sprint have made available a new software maintenance release (SW version 1.10) for the Palm 700p on the Palm website: www.palm.com/700pupdate
The new desktop updater is available on the Palm website now and will be made available on the Sprint downloads site in the near future.
o The updater improves performance on the device in several areas. Key areas are improved message handling (both text messages and the Versamail client’s interaction with Microsoft ActiveSync) and improvements to Bluetooth capabilities on the device.
o The customer can perform the update using their PC and USB cables (Windows 2000 and XP only; Widows Vista requires using the SD card installation method.)
o Customers can also perform the update via an SD Card update version; also found on the Palm website.
A text message will be sent to all Individual Liable Treo 700p customers within the next two weeks informing them of the update and where to go to download it. The text of the message will be the following or something very close:
“Treo 700P update now available. This important update improves performance, message handling, & more. Download to your PC at w w w.palm.com/700pupdate.”
We are currently working on communications for Corporate Liable customers. In the meantime, you can use the information in this e-mail to contact your customers and let them know about the update so they can decide how to proceed.
Here is what the maintenance release corrects:
Phone/PDA Upgrades and Enhancements:
· Performance improvements to phone application minimizing resets and power-cycling issues.
· System improvements to minimize skipping during music playback and eliminate audio delays experienced on some games
· Performance improvement to minimize delays experienced when loading Blazer® browser
· Support for new daylight savings time legislation, plus a simplified Date/Time preference panel
· Resolution of certain “wake up” issues that may occur with certain third party push email solutions
· Improved handling of SMS messages to lessen stalling of messages & any errors as a result of sending or receiving SMS messages.
· For customers using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with SP 2 and above, an update to VersaMail® client now includes an update to Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® which adds Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology for push email, calendar and contacts. Also adding other EAS functionality such as remote wipe, policy support, and global address lookup
· Increased expansion card support including 4GB SD cards and SDHC cards
· Corrected IR Beaming issues
· Picture Mail issues corrected. No longer causes resetting to device.
· Sprint TV quality improvements
Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Upgrades and Enhancements:

This update is significant. I've had it installed since June, but they recalled the release due to install issues with some people. It has been re-released with new installer.
It has nearly doubled battery life (for me), the PDA use is snappier and I'm able to use an 8GB SDHC card w/out a hack. Bluetooth DUN is solid as a rock. Major improvements. All the issues that mattered to me are now resolved. A solid phone now. |

Note that the Mac update requires downloading the software, using a card reader to copy it to the SD card and then following the worst procedures I have seen yet to perform the update. Those procedures are also required for Windows, I believe.
I tried copying the files to the card using Missing Sync but I think they transefered with the folder and it didn't work. |
