Plus, it could be placed away from machine or closer to a window. | I had not thought about that. You are guessing the speed might be slower I imagine. What kind of usb extension cable would you use? Is there a special type? Forgive my ignorance. Do you mean something like this? http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=165211&cats=120&catid=508%2C102%2C120 _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |

| Yes, like that. But I'm wondering if there would be too much power loss if the cable were too long. I suppose a high quality cable, even 6', would work just as well as direct connect. And there would be potential to have better placement signal-wise with the cable extension. If it works well, might be something for Michael to consider in a package. |

That site had higher quality and more expensive cables that they say preserves signals better here: http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-EXT-2X.html
I guess using a cable may make it more practical to add a booster too if you wanted that also. I will either be using this outside or in fixed spot on different job sites. Sometimes this option of an extension cable might be useful for me. _________________ SonyTX17P&UX90S |

So which cable you recommend?
I will need a long one for a Carputer install.
Looking for quality (no matter the cost)
with at least 20FT or so.

This is a fixed unit with the antenna attached to a building and connected by cable to the modem and not a mobile device. The pages do not state whether EVDO is used although it might be since the stats are similar; however, the 25 mile range seems greater than EVDO's range. |

Sorry to be lazy and not sort through the past 12 pages but here's my question:
Is there any benefit of having a USB EVDO modem vs. having an EVDO PC card modem (i.e. Merlin S620) aside from the obvious USB connection...? |
