karlyn, I agree. I write software for a living, I know. However it seems that there are more than a few differences between the Verizon and Alltel versions of this card, not sure why that is though. Didn't want to BRICK a card if you didn't have to. I also would love to lock my card to EVDO, however I live in an area that only has 2 towers and fortunately both are EVDO. I'll probably start to complain when 1 gets upgraded to rA and the other stays at DO. |

There were two towers down in town I was connecting with Monday evening, One was Ra and the other EVDO. they kept me disconnecting and reconnecting all evening long as one would get better signal then the other would they were both giving me around 2-3 bars of signal Around -65-75 dbm. Up where i am now its old EVDO and at -75 dbm but fairly fast at 75 up and 1285 down,[kbps]. I think I am on Sprint's tower up here and I have no clue as to who's towers I was on down there in Tucson. Up here in Catalina If it wasn't for Sprint we wouldn't have any signal at all!! I wonder if they will start up Ra soon???..... |

I got my PC5750, and I was able to lock EVDO with it. Now I just need to get a Kyocera KR2.
I guess I have to call Alltel to switch my account from the UM150 to the PC5750. Is that correct? I can lock EVDO and do a field test without activating the card. |

Yup. Definitely need to call Alltel to do an ESN swap. It's pretty quick and painless once you get to the right person.
As for the KR2 . . . you might want to take a look at the review of the new CradlePoint router that 3GStore will have online very soon. It sounds like it will be the device we've all been waiting for and it's supposedly going to be released in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Alex posted in another thread yesterday that the review is 90% complete. |

Where can I find info on it? Does it have PCMCIA? That was the main reason I was looking at the KR2. 3GStore actually steered me toward the KR2. |

| Hi Nathan, I may have jumped the gun there. I didn't notice that you were needing the PCMCIA type 2 slot. I'm not sure if the new CradlePoint router will accommodate that or not. Chances are it won't and that's probably why 3GStore pointed you towards the KR2 (imagine that . . they know what they're talking about!) since it's supposed to have slots for your card as well as an express card slot I think. Anyway, the review for the new Cradlepoint router will be online pretty soon from what Alex posted. |

The KR2 will have Express Card, PCMCIA and USB whereas the Cradlepoint MBR1000 will only have Express Card and USB. Both of these routers are made by Cradlepoint so I think you're set either way (except I haven't seen the supported devices list yet).
I wish I could find the thread that talked about this!
Edit: Here's the thread that talks about modem types. Still searching for the thread that said they're both made by Cradlepoint. |

Well I would like to thank everyone here.
I brought a kypc680 and got myself into a 2 yr contract with alltel.
After two weeks every 15 min I had to restart the access software. Called support and they told me that if I had wlan on, it interfered with the card. I found this place and thank you all again. I did the tcp recieve window and that didn't seem to do anything. I upgraded to 4.6.6 . I still wasn't connecting to EVDO. Cut this story short Mobile IP Off did it.
I still got my card replace because of that 15min situation. Lets see how long ithis card will last.

That's a helpful thing to know. I'd read that Alltel data cards are typically provisioned for Simple IP rather than Mobile IP although the default setting for the card is often "Mobile IP Preferred."
