I live in a flat area outside of my town. I am currently using the sprint PX-500 on a laptop. I am then using (ICS) or internet connection sharing to all of the other computers in my house, in place of buying the $200 router. I am generally in the ballpark of -105dbm but it does fluctuate from that to about -98 or so. But it is not stable enough to use inside my house, I usually have to be out on the deck. Do you guys think an antenna might make a difference? If so, what kind can I use with the PX-500?
Thanks In advance!

Very likely yes. First thing to try is take your laptop outside and see if your signal improves. Then, if you can, get up on you roof with your laptop and check signal level again. If it keeps improving, then an external antenna is likely to work well for you. Getting an antenna outside can often be an excellent signal enhancer.
I run an omni antenna on my roof with 27 ft. total of cable. It works very well for me. A directional antenna, such as a Yagi, can improve signal even more. Take a look at some of the threads in the antenna forum here: http://www.evdoforums.com/viewforum.php?f=19 _________________ Reach, Connect, Celebrate, Grow, Serve. |

I think an external antenna would definitely help you. I was pretty much in your same situation. I could barely get a signal in the house, but outside was usable. I would start out with the omni antenna and external adapter from 3gstore. I am completely satisfied with my omni and adapter from them.
Another thing to consider is your actual placement of the antenna. I was getting -95s in one room's window, but when I switched just one room over I am getting -80s. |

In light of finding out that verizon caps there bandwidth on a "unlimited" service i am looking for other options. I dont think I have any. Here is a map of how close sprint is to me. Do you think I could get it to work?
