I am currently a Verizon cutomer and I spend most of my time in the NYC area. My contract ends in a few months. I spend $60+ for data each month and I currently have the PC5740 card. I am buying a new (Lenovo Thinkpad) laptop and I'm considering going with integrated Verizon service. I think I want to switch up to Sprint because I am guessing that the service is less expensive and it seems the speeds are higher so far, plus they provide unlimited bandwidth...
Is there any hardware that will work with both networks from an intel-based PC ? |

sorry. all evdo devices are provisioned for one carrier or another,
and controlled by the ESN of device being registered with carrier. |

You're especially stuck with a Thinkpad; you can't even buy a Sprint card and replace the Verizon one. The BIOS is hard-coded to give the following error for unauthorized cards: | Quote: | | 1804, Unauthorized WAN card is plugged in. Power off and remove the WAN card. | They claim this is for FCC regulations, but no other laptop manufacturer does this. It's too bad, as I would've bought one of the new X61 Thinkpads otherwise, even if I had to switch the card myself. |

| Good to know - thanks for that info. I would have thought differently because of other posts I had read otherwise. Thanks! |

Oh man, I hear you, OP. I have my beloved IBM Thinkpad T60p, nicely equipped. I have a Verizon WWAN card in it, although several "hardware checkers" keep saying I have a Sierra Wireless HSDPA modem, which would be AT&T (Cingular). Oh well, my Pantech PX-500 from Sprint is working beautifully!
Also, I don't think IBM/Lenovo has laptops with anything other than AT&T HSDPA and Verizon EVDO cards. Just FYI. |

| Actually, I think if you "activate" the card again with Sprint, and give them the ESN number, it will work. |

One problem with a computer is the driver conflicts. It seems you must have one or the other installed. You might get by if you have your drive partitioned and can switch drives or perhaps use an external drive for starting up.
A router might solve your problem, if you are using one card from one vendor and another card from the other vendor. Then you just swap cards and thus swap telcos. Check the specs on the TopGlobal routers if this interests you. |

I replaced the Verizon EV-DO card with one from Sprint. I have run into the 1804 error on a Lenovo x61 Tablet. Has anyone been able to figure out a fix for this yet?
Thanks,
