I'm in a pretty bad area, I have a -109db signal, 0-1 bars on the signal meter. My 595 is sharing a connection with several pc's right now and after a full 14 hours of constant audio and video downloads, and some xbox live, starting yesterday evening, the battery still isn't dead or blinking red. My upload speed could use some serious help at 100kb average but my download is pretty good at 1.2-1.6mb.

I've been online with my 595u for 352 hours with one break yesterday to install new coax, and repair my dish. Heavy heavy usage on the weekends of nearly 24 hour xbox live. No dead batteries, no poor performance. It seems to be holding up very well at this point. I do however run it exclusiley on a desktop machine which may make a difference in the charge rate of the USB ports.

I have experienced absolutely zero problems with my 595U, and I've been using it daily for several months now.

you will NEVER want to use your extremely signal-challenged connection for 80 minutes or longer?

Its like I've said from the first time I even read a description of the "engineering marvel" that is the 595U:
I don't know whose EVDO customers this thing was designed for, but they will not be my customers.

My question is very simple: No other card has a battery, for example the new Franklin.. So what will happen with that card in a fringe area? Instead of 80 minutes in a weak-signal you get 0? Or it works just as well/almost as well and just never runs out of power?

the thing is, you are after an opinion of how the CDU680 would work in a fringe area with just its built in antenna, and most people who know they are in a fringe area, aren't going to force themselves to use just the mediocre (and TINY) antennas that are built into any of these devices.

the common logic is, if signal sucks, you take advantage of external high gain antennas in order to obtain as reliable a connection as you can.

I've had the 595U AirCard for about 6 weeks and all of a sudden I've run into the weak/low battery syndrome. My signal has always been in the -80s range and I don't have any complaints about the speed.

Starting just a few days ago it started running down on me. I can get it charged back up and get the Green LED but like was indicated earlier it seems like 80 minutes is about the max.

Thanks to this thread I just realized that since I have it here in the office where I can monitor it might be the reason it won't stay up since the signal is low in this position. I guess I should put it back where I had it and see if it holds the charge better. Maybe there was a short spell of low signal and thats what caused it to run down in the first place.

I gather its going into a higher-power mode with weak signal conditions. Would anyone happen to know where that threshold is?

Tnx,
Jack
