I've been using a Kr1/U720 combination for a week now. The Kr1 is running 1010 firmware. Everything works great most of the time, but the Kr1 drops connection at least once a day. When it loses connection, I must power cycle it to reestablish connection. This angers my wife who is using the Kr1 as her wireless inet for her laptop. Angry wife = bad times..any ideas?
btw...the U720 works flawlessly when not hooked into the KR1.

I'd like to know, too. Have used KR1 with U720 for a few months and with great success, except for recently a very few mysterious drops. If I power down and reboot the KR1 it returns to stable.

Is this to be expected, or is there something a user can do to avoid the disconnect?

Allow me to add myself to the list that is having problems with dropped connections. I am using the USB 720 from Verizon. If I power cycle the KR1 all is well till the next drop, I happens as many as 5 times in a 3 hour period.

I am using Alltel's PC card with a KR1 and get similar results. Randomly, every 24-36 hours I drop my connection and must reboot the KR1. It's not a big deal for me, but my wife isn't happy. Bad times indeed. Smile

What firmware are you all using? I'm on 1010. Fresh install.

My company's other, which one of our plant managers uses, is running 1008 and has the same problem using a different Alltel air card, so I'm somewhat sure (meaning not sure at all) Smile that the problem is the KR1.

I lose my connection about once a minute. I have the latest firmware and I'm using the Pantech PX-500. It won't stay connected long enough to check my email. The card works great when it's plugged into my laptop, but as soon as I try to use the KR1 it disconnects all the time.

I get the same thing. Just a random drop. May have to manually reset 4 to 5 times sometimes to get back on. Can happen anytime day or night. I have a Wilson amplipher hooked up to it but still happens. Makes no difference where in the country I am at either. If anyone has any ideas I sure would like to hear them.

OK, I installed the new firmware...seems to make some difference but I'll wait and see. I had a Dlink before this and it was like trying to walk four Jack Russell Terriers after smoking a joint...

I'll let you know in a week...

When I first got my KR1 & KPC650, it would drop connections maybe once an hour up to three or four hours of constant use. An upgrade to RK1010 had no noticeable effect I don't think.

Now, it is dropping every 5 to 30 minutes sometimes. That is rebooting the KR1 over a dozen times a day. Most of the time, it is easy enough to go into the KR1's web page (using an alternate browser) and find the reboot option. Sometimes it takes a hard reset, but that is rare. Good thing: my KR1 is in another building a lot. Turning the wireless AP off might help, but the above results are with it off.

I am happy when I can use the connection for 4 hours. Elated. Rarely possible.

Here is what tech support found: my connection drops looked "normal" to them. They didn't see the drops being caused by signal strength.

My symptoms: 1, I notice that Internet is timing out. 2, I check the signal status and it is either 9/10 (normal) bars or 4/10 (fishy) bars... then in about 90 seconds the EVDO call is dropped. In other words, I can tell the web is down before the KR1 really does. 3. I reboot the router and try to go back to normal. It is hard on email connections.

So I am clunking along at 128 kbps, ISDN. It's as good as it gets in Remotevile. But it's consistent! It's the same speed I have been using for most of the past ten years, and it is extremely hard to use it for business now.

No improvement with the firmware update. This thing is becoming quite the pain. Card works fine in laptop. And yes, I can see the Internet is down before the Krazy-R-1 can. I can see where tech support would think the drops look normal until I put this thing up side their head. I am a photojournalist and both laptops, camera, and printer are wireless so when this miserable piece of crap goes down in the middle of a scan, email, blog upload, picture download or whatever I am none too happy. I forgave it for awhile but that is long gone....

rick s,

How long have you had your KR1? Who did you buy it from? If it was me and I'd decided the KR1 was the problem then I'd be contacting whoever I got it from for either support to fix the problem or for them to replace it. If it's been too long for that kind of support then, like anything else you buy that's out of warranty, you're probably sol and will need to buy another router. One thing's for sure . . . . they will not last indefinitely.

Good luck!

I'm on it...had it a few months. I forget who I got it from but I have all the paperwork that I need. Too bad too. When it works it works great but when it doesn't, well let's just say I'd rather sandpaper a wild cat's a_s in a telephone booth than mess with it any more.
