I just got my KR1 today and am using a Pantech PX-500. The Pantech worked flawessly in my laptop previously, and it works in the KR1 (with 1010 firmware upgrade), but my KR1 drops the connection randomly. Here is the strange part...it is not dropping the WAN (EVDO) connection, just the wireless G connection. When my computers lose the connection, i can still use the ethernet ports. Is this the same problem you guys are having? Or are you dropping the EVDO connection?

This might be old news by now, but I just saw the thread.

I called in after many months of the same issue. I actually tried acting clueless at first and letting the initial tech walk me through the supposed troubleshooting steps. This mainly consisted of stuff I knew was BS like turning UpNp off and on, "giving it a week," changing frequencies, etc. but I wanted to see what their "solution" was. After three calls - three waits on hold - and three CSR's that barely spoke English- I finally let loose on some poor Indian woman and then, AMAZINGLY got transferred..... to a white, intelligent, english speaking person. The point is

Once this guy figured out I actually did know wtf i was talking about, he actually told me that this was a KNOWN issue with this router and said he had previously owned a KR1 himself. Apparently the only solution is really just to swap out for a new router.. firmware upgrades won't fix it. but my NEW/reburbished-ironically-router from kyocera/dlink (with identical U720 in it and *identical* v1010 firmware) worked like a charm. Thank you finally, you don't know how happy i was when I could finally crank my ftp all the time and not have to deal with resetting the damn thing every time i come back in the room. One time I was connected for 16 days...

now, if ur still interested, my router is about six months old, and the rep told me that the problem used to be more hit and miss but now *should* been solved on the production end on the latest routers (didn't have specifics on what the problem was). i'm kind of wondering if that is true though in terms of it being fixed if all of you have newer routers though....

I disabled WPA and WEP and the router has been connected for 4 hours straight. It narrows the problem but doesn't make me feel better knowing that I have to trade security for stability. Looks like MAC filtering is my only option for now.

The router went for about 6 hours straight, which is a step in the right direction, but the computer connected through wirless G disconnected right in front of my eyes. No router reset, because the computer connected to the ethernet port was still connected to the internet.

Obviously a problem with the wireless segment disconnecting on the KR1. Wish I would have (could have should have) found this thread before 8 hrs of trouble shooting and two calls to tech support.

Problem is that I have read numerous posts where folks have RMA'd their routers only to have the exact same problem with the new one. Problem seems to be consistent regardless of carrier or evdo card.

My work around is an old Linksys AP hard weird to the KR1. Seems to work well.

This issue needs to be fixed!!!/ addressed by vendors!!!!

I could return the KR1 (only 2 days old) but I obviously need a router and the ethernet segments seem to be rock solid.

I am a recovering Wildblue user and I have burnt my bridges behind me. Two year contract expired yesterday and I WILL MAKE EVDO REV A WORK. I can not begin to express what a horrible experience Wildblue was. I am just itching to introduce my dish to my shotgun LOL.

Hey, you know you can sell those dishes/modems once you kill the horrific Sat service?! Check on EBay... Im in the same boat.

I dont suspect it is a WiFi-related problem, as the disconnect is more than just the WLAN going out - the actual connection with the tower appears to drop every few hours (more often when using significant bandwidth). When I skip the KR1 all together, my USB720 works great.

I've had mine for a year but it only started randomly dropping WAN connectivity in the last few months.

I just created a shortcut on my desktop:

http://192.168.0.1/restart.cgi

And named it "Reboot KR1". Makes for an easy reboot.

Here is the problem I am having (i assume this is the same problem everyone else is having also). I have the KR1 (with firmware 1011, and the latest FW upgrade to the Sprint U720) sitting right next to my laptop running XP. I had the same issues using FW 1010 and an older version of the U720 FW also. The signal strength is Excellent (according to XP). When browsing the internet using IE7, it will respond quick to a few pages, then the response gets slow, and I get "page can not be displayed", and if I refresh the page , it will display again. This happens every few minutes. I have WEP with 128 encryption enabled. When connecting the KR1 using a network cable I do not have problems or if I put the U720 directly to the laptop and using SCM there are no problems.

Reading this thread, I do not believe anyone has posted a solution (if there is even a solution). I can try to get Kyocera to send another KR1, but don't know how much luck I will have doing that.

Any suggestions?

Looks like the U720 is not compatible with the WRT54G3G-ST. So, I either need to buy another EVDO card, or try other options.

I found this workaround via google when I was troubleshooting the same problem that you are having. This setup worked well until I could get my new router. If I HAD to keep the KR1, I would have continued using my old Linksys AP hardwired into the KR1 for WAN.

Don't hold your breath. I was experiencing random disconnects with my KR1 + KPC650 combination. I upgraded the 650 to a 680 and still experience the drops.

I disabled UPnP, PPTP, IPSec, and Multicast Stream and my issue with having to refresh a page quite often has disappeared.
