| Is there a way to hide the SSID or to not broadcast the SSID from the KR1 router? In my Linksys routers I have a checkbox were you can turn off the SSID broadcast, but in the KR1 there seems to be no way to not broadcast the SSIS. Any ideas? |

| Note that even if you don't broadcast the SSID, it is still contained in the cleartext of an encrypted wireless transmission. If you want to disable the SSID for security reasons, it really doesn't buy you much. It just means they need to sniff the wireless for a few minutes, instead of being able to browse for it.... |

OK, so it seems like that is not a big deal then. I do have WEP on and a passphrase on with a shared key. I think it is impossible to get on this router without that. Is that right?
Being on a boat, maybe I should change the SSID to be something other than my boat name. Since the SSID is broadcast then I am announcing that I have this netowrk on my boat and may be inviting a problem. That is why I wanted to noit broadcast the SSID like a linksys routher does. |

Yeah. Make the SSID something nodescript, or nonsensical, like random letters. Or something that just makes sense to you.
Do keep in mind that WEP is COMPLETELY broken and can be broken into using automated tools in almost real time. You should be using WPA (TKIP) or WPA2 (AES), if that is an option for you. WEP right now just keeps the honest people honest. |

You can use special characters on the KR1 such as $@ Etc... I think you can use 20-25 characters
Def do not use anything recognizable...... |

KR1 supports WEP and WPA-PSK only. Of those, WPA-PSK is far more secure and is much, much harder to break. |
