I bought a "universal" adapter at radio shack, stripped off one end and soldered it to the traces on the card. I got a marginal improvement in signal strength but not a whole lot of improvement in stability or speed. I used the tombstone antenna that RS sells for about $40 and later switched to a 9dbi magnetic mount for the roof (corrugated steel).
The magnetic mount is also good for trips. I've driven between San Antonio, TX and Galveston (250 miles) and not lost connection.
I soldered the center conductor of the coax to the pad where the "spring" makes contact and the shielding to the "dotted" area (the ground plane). I had to scrape off some of the varnish to get to the metal underneath.
I ran it this way for a couple months but eventually switched to a cheap 5220 off ebay when I started building my stompbox. The 5740 was too tight of a fit in the small case.

We have an induction adapter designed for Blackberry's and PDA's that might work if positioned properly |
