I searched and could not find a tracert log--just the Alltel session log which tells nothing about speeds. I did find some Tracert.exe files but they don't seem to do anything. How do I get a log of connect speeds?

I am able to connect to Alltel just fine--it's just getting to the Internet and downloading that is the problem.

I'm experiencing the same thing. Download speeds range from less than 1 KB/sec to 15/16 KB/sec. Sometimes pages and email loads ok, other times not at all.

No satisfactory response from Alltel other than I'm probably in a bad area (wasn't that bad before) or they're working on the problem (it takes 3 weeks???). The company that is supposed to be working on it is not Alltel, it's MTSO-stands for Mobile Telephone Switching Office. The MTSO is the switching office that connects all of the individual cell towers to the Central Office.

There is also no way to contact them to see when or if it will be fixed.

Where are you located? I'm in Leelanau County Michigan.

Hi again from Jackson County Michigan.

I have the Axcess DataLink usb setup. When I first got it in March there were a lot of problems and many calls to Tech Support. Finally they told me the problem was with my local tower. A few weeks later, I was told the repairs were made.

HOWEVER it was a good month after that before all of a sudden my download speeds went up to about 800 kbs on speedtest.net

By the way, I'm going to be in Charlevoix this weekend. Friend there also has the same setup, but it is slower as EVDO is not yet available, but sometime soon.

I am happy to say that I am now connected via EVDO!!! I'm downloading a file right now at 96kb/sec.

To produce a tracert log, open a command prompt and type:

cd \
press enter key

then type

tracert www.google.com -> tracertlog.txt
press enter key

Close the command prompt and open My Computer, then double-click the C: drive. You should see a text file named tracertlog. You can double-click it and print it out or attach it to an e-mail to Alltel.

I'm hoping you're having the problems because they're upgrading the towers, Pat. I was having very similar issues and my speeds are now blazen hazen!

Hello

Alltel customers from Michigan will be happy to know that EVDO is becoming active between now and October. I am in Houghton Lake, MI and our EVDO was turned on Friday morning.

For anyone who doesn't know where Houghton Lake is, just look at the back of your left hand and point to your middle finger knuckle, that is where HL is. Currently EVDO is picking up about 7 miles N of Houghton Lake and goes S down by Harrison.

The rest of the lower peninsula is scheduled to be completed by October. I just had a conference call on Friday, and the higher ups assured us it is coming. It was awesome to see the red EV an hour later. The first thing I did Friday evening was cancle my Charter cable.

Added to that is our new roaming agreement with Sprint. Alltel customers can roam off Sprint at EVDO speeds where available and even Rev A where available if you have the kyocera kcp680 data card.

Rest assured EVDO is coming. Believe me, I thought that Houghton Lake would have been the last place to get EVDO, but here it is.

Jason

My friend in Charlevoix got the usb Data Axcess plan in anticipation of EVDO. She will be glad to get this news. In April, we were told EVDO in July/Aug. A couple of weeks ago, Sept. But, it is coming.

I am in Jackson County on I-94. When I plug my phone into my computer the red EVDO signal on the phone changes. Is that what it should do? Couldn't get an answer locally.

Really glad to see someone from Alltel Michigan posting here.

Thanks, mjh

Hello mj,

It is my pleasure to be on here. I guess I am kinda excited about EVDO. My cable internet bill is getting expensive, so I am excited that I can pay only $25 to use my Moto Q as a modem. In Houghton Lake I consistantly pull around 1Mb down, so while it is a bit slower than my 3Mb cable, it is still fast enough for my online games and for streaming media.

Does your friend have an EVDO phone? Make sure or she will only be able to connect at 1xRtt speeds.

Regards,

Hiya again, Jason

We both have the Motorola e815 and the $25.00 usb Data Axcess plan.

How are you getting that download speed? via sppedtest.net?

At first I got 300 to 400, then after the tower was fix I get from 500 to sometimes 800. I use the Chicago link to test. I was told I would be credited for the $25.00 first month since there were many problems, but that credit has yet to be seen.

Then I seleved 1x/EVDO for the speed and MI for the state.

I will try speedtest when I get off work, and will post results today or tomorrow.
