This press release came out this morning:
| Quote: | New Technical Support Web Site Is The Ultimate Self-Help Guide To Verizon Wireless' Products and Services
New Web Site Guides Every Verizon Wireless Customer through Answers to their Data Questions
BEDMINSTER, N.J., Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, has just made it easier for customers to get the technical support they need, whenever they need it. Verizon Wireless' new Data Technical Support Web site (http://www.verizonwireless.com/data) provides customized support based on each Verizon Wireless device, giving customers a convenient way to obtain the information they need to understand and use the data services available on their wireless devices.
Packed full of helpful information, tools and troubleshooting guides, the Data Technical Support Web site provides customers with the immediate and invaluable assistance they require to make the most of Verizon Wireless' data products and services. Featuring interactive data simulators that demonstrate how to use the most popular data featured on select advanced devices, FAQs, How to Use Guides and other support content on a variety of topics, the site is a resource for customers with all kinds of Verizon Wireless data-enabled devices.
Mobile Professionals and Business Customers - Wireless Data Access and More
The Data Technical Support Web site is a premier resource for mobile professionals and business customers whose busy professional lives call for data-enabled devices. Verizon Wireless customers with more advanced devices, such as PDAs, Smartphones and PC Cards, can access and download specific support content directly from the new site. With just a few clicks, mobile professionals and business customers can find useful information on the following help topics:
-- BlackBerry®
-- Bluetooth®
-- Push to Talk
-- VZAccess, including NationalAccess and BroadbandAccess wireless data services
-- Wireless Sync
Consumers - Multimedia and More
Because every Verizon Wireless phone or device currently sold has at least one data feature -- such as TXT and PIX Messaging, Get it Now® and V CAST -- the new site can also help customers who are simply looking to get the most out of their phones. Customers seeking answers to "How to" questions, such as how to take and send a picture from their camera phone, can easily find this information on Verizon Wireless' Data Technical Support Web site. Customers can find all the assistance they need on the following products and services:
-- Get It Now
-- Mobile Web 2.0(SM)
-- TXT Messaging and TXT Alerts
-- PIX and FLIX Messaging, including information about Pix Place
-- V CAST
Customers can access the Data Technical Support Web site by logging on to http://www.verizonwireless.com/data or by selecting "Wireless Data" from the Support tab at the top of their screen. Once at the site, customers simply select their specific device manufacturer and then click on the photo of their device to enter the customized device page to get information on their specific device right at their fingertips. |
At first glance, this appears to be a GREAT thing. The support that Verizon provides at the store level does not exist. When you call in, depending on who you talk to, the support may be horrible to OK.
So, we decided to try out the "Ultimate Support Web Site".
The first thing we tried, and we were excited by, was there was a link to download the KPC650 software for Windows users. We got excited, since there hasn't been a link to the KPC650 software for Windows yet. We followed the link, still not download available.
Next we tried a tech support document named:
Datalink was terminated by the remote machine
Here is the URL:
http://dts.vzw.com/troubleshooting_guide/pc_cards/datalink_error.html
We got this displayed:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected ':' in /home/www/dts.vzw.com/htdocs/troubleshooting_guide/pc_cards/datalink_error.html on line 287
Hopefully, Verizon fixes this "Ultimate Self-Help Guide" web site soon, as it will only create more questions than provide answers. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael, the experience you describe is very similar to my own experience with Verizon websites. I have never been able to pay my bill online, for example. The only response to my efforts is an error message and a request to try again later!
Tech support suggested that I might be using an unsupported browser (I use Safari) but I almost never have any difficulty of this sort on other web sites.
Looks to me like Verizon needs a whole new webcrafting crew... |
