This thread will discuss the PPC-6800 (Mogul by HTC) and the average battery life with the included battery. According to the PPC-6800 Press Release, there is a 20% increase in battery life over the PPC-6700.

This thread will also discuss any extended battery options for the PPC-6800.

We should be getting a PPC-6800 in for testing and we will report on the battery life to this thread after we get it.

on time but it only lasts about a half a day of average use before I’m looking for a plug in.

I moved from a 6600 and the old one had a much better battery life. I wonder what kind of battery upgrade they can provide when they have that cover on the back. Also where is the docking station????

Sorry the top part of the previous message got chopped off.

I have been using the ppc-6800 for about 3 days now. I have found the battery life to be horrible. I can’t state specifically how long it lasts in talk time and on time but it only lasts about a half a day of average use before I’m looking for a plug in.

Be helpful to list more details:

- screen brightness on battery? (default is full brightness)
- using IE or Mail?
- if Mail, how often you checking email (5 mins, 10, etc)
- when on battery, what is the setting for turning off display
- bluetooth enabled? Using it?
- Wifi On or Off?

I am doing some testing today with all the above settings tweaked to see how long it goes...

Wow, you mean I just can’t complain??

Let’s see what I can provide

- screen brightness on battery? (default is full brightness)
I set it to very low on battery. If there are 10 clicks to full I believe it’s on 2

- using IE or Mail?
Mail

- if Mail, how often you checking email (5 mins, 10, etc)
5 mins

- when on battery, what is the setting for turning off display
30 secs

- bluetooth enabled? Using it?
Yes., not yet but I have been trying to get my ear fob to work

- Wifi On or Off?
On.

Isn’t the objective to get WiFi to work so it does not have to dial into sprint every time for updates?

Coming from a Treo 755p I can say that the battery life is actually not too bad. I can definitely get a whole day out of it with some Wifi use and constant browsing on my lunch and a few phone calls. I have the default screen brightness and don't have any mail being pulled in the background.

So far, the battery is better than expected.

I have my PPC-6800 checking email on 4 IMAP accounts every 5 minutes. Being doing lite surfing, reading emails all day. 7 hours without plugging in and I am at 50%.

WiFi is disabled for first day of testing, just using EVDO. BlueTooth is disabled too.

Will continue to do more testing.

I have found that the battery life on HTC phones is very good. I had the PPC 6700 on sprint and I had to plug it at least once before the end of the day. I had an HTC 9100 which was similar and that battery life lasted me all day long and I still didn't have to charge it for over a day. I now have an HTC S621 and the battery life on that phone is great as I can get more than a day on that without charging. I have e-mails set to download every 5 minutes on 3 e-mail accounts.

I get no more than 36 hours on my new Mogul. I had a Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTN) and it was about the same.
I have it set up to receive SMSs on a pretty regular basis, about 5-10 a day from various sources and get 10 - 20 SMSs from IMs.
I also have it set to retrieve emails every 2 hours. I had the 8525 set to 1 hour.
The backlight is set to about 80% and the screen is set to go off after 1 min.
Both the HTC site and the Sprint tier 1 tech are about useless for any additional info: turn of as soon as you are done and charge whenever possible, etc.
One of the 3rd party TyTN cradle chargers has a spot for a 2nd battery, i wonder why... Unfortunately I purchased the one without the extra slot.
Cannot find anything bigger than the 1500ma that comes with it and no one has an extra for sale anyway Twisted Evil that I can find.
Solution: plug it in whenever possible, I guess.

If anybody else has any ideas let me know . . . pls.

Hello,
I have two complaints with regard to the HTC Mogul. The battery life on the phone is less than satisfactory. The other issue is that the phone is cumbersome.

For the most part I have to leave the phone off other wise the battery will run out in a day or so. If I use it to talk or search on the web, I can pretty much count on the battery life to dwindle away.

I see that this is a very common issue with this phone....

The touch screen is not responsive, in the way I thought it would be. When making phone calls I have to be very cautious, other wise I end up pressing the wrong number or command. I mean; let’s face it; I can’t always use both hands to make a phone call. This devise feels like driving a car, "BOTH HANDS ON THE STEARING WHEEL”. Using the stylus is very frustrating. I don’t want to pull that out just to make phone calls.

That’s my word.
Sad

I have the exact oposite experience.

The touch interface is fairly easy to use once you get used to it. And you can use the directional pad to move around with one hand. Dialing is a cinch. And going the extra few bucks for MS Voice Command eliminates most of the cumbersome dialing -- of course, that changes if you need to make use of touch-tone services. Ideally, nothing beats tactile feedback, but considering its design, the Mogul isn't as bad as it could have turned out.

Battery life, like any PDA device, is all dependant on your usage habits. Doing simple things like turning the backlight down, and turning the backlight timer down to one or two minutes of use, and turning off your WiFi or data connection while not in use will preserve your battery immensly.

I use the phone all day long with a BT headset -- I burn through almost 1500 minutes a month. I use it for business, music, and watching movies. And I have to say that considering everything I do on it, the battery life is pretty amazing, so long as I don't get careless, and I turn off the features I'm not using.

But of course, if you use the bajesus out of the phone all day long, you will never get around the fact that you may have to plug it in for a charge before the end of the day. I have a charger and stand in the car, and at work, I plug the phone into my work station's USB port. It's pretty effortless, and I've never have a problem with a critical battery since buying the phone in August.

I'm using the Alltel version of the Mogul. The PPC6800. This is possibly the best mobile device I've ever used and I've used pretty much all of them. If anyone is expecting ANY smartphone to run for days on a single charge then there's probably no smartphone that you will be happy with. Just not the nature of these beasts.

I am a heavy user - over 2000 minutes talk time per month, I have my BT headset on with BT switched on on the device for about 16 - 18 hours per day (except for those annoying times, about 2 or 3 times per day, that the BT on the phone decides to just turn itself off for no apparent reason), I am connected to an exchange server for push email (mail2web.com) and I use wifi every chance I get - and like Antilles, I keep it plugged in whenever I can.

Working from home I have it in the charger, when driving more than just around town I normally keep it plugged in, and I use my USB sync cable with my laptop whenever I'm at a motel. All in all if I don't keep it plugged in I'm lucky to make it past 3PM without HAVING to search for a plug but in those cases where charging isn't available I try to plan ahead and keep an extra charged battery in my pocket.

I'm going to try out the new Seidio Super Extended battery (3200MAH). It's quite huge but it comes with a battery cover to fit over it and I'd only use it on those days keeping it plugged in isn't an option. Click here for more info.

I have been very pleased with this device other than the BT issues. I took back the original one within the 30 day period and exchanged it for a new one due to really bad BT problems. The one they gave me that day was taken back the very same day as it was running extremely s l o w out of the box, and I've had the current version for a couple of months now. BT issues seemed fixed on this one until the past week or so when they've begun to creep up again. BT is a known issue with this device with some reporting extreme problems to the point of rendering BT totally unusable on some, notably on Sprint's Mogul, according to several forums. Alltel's version seems to have better luck for some reason in this area.

Another thing that is a bit of an issue is the limited onboard memory and constant memory leaks . . . . . . . but that's workable and probably for a whole nuther thread anyway.

One last thing I've recently noticed too is that when connected to a buddy's Comcast Cable network via his Wifi router the best I was able to get was about 1.5Mb download speeds when my laptop was able to see 10Mb downloads over the same network. Obviously the processor in the phone isn't quite up to the same speeds as the laptop. Makes me wonder then, if there's much chance of seeing any noticeably faster EVDO speeds as well? What's the fastest speeds any of you with the Mogul/PPC6800 have seen EVDO and/or Wifi?
