Has anyone really abused the KR1 with heat as on top of a dashboard in the summer or tucked away in a hot attic ?
I am building a home on borderline EVDO coverage area, actually no EVDO from Verizon and no voice or EVDO from Sprint. A friend of a friend has told me that Verizon with have EVDO RevA by the end of August in the area but the signal will still be weak (I live in the stiks!). No cable, no DSL, no WISP so it's either Verizon or Hughes Net.
I can get a SOMEWHAT good CDMA signal from the roof of the home so my plans are to mount a KR1 in the attic then run 20ft of 1/2 semi-rigid coax to a Yagi antenna for almost 50ft of height. That should clear the trees and give me a solid signal. My worry is that the KR1 can not handle the SC heat in the attic. I don't want to mount the KR1 anywhere else since anything more than 20ft of cable (even hardline) will wipe out any increase in gain that the antenna and altitude will give me.
Thanks,
Rich |

| The physical device is rated at 131 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the maximum temperature that the unit will operate at. With that in mind, that value does not account for prolonged usage at high temperatures. As with any electronic device, the more heat it has to deal with, the shorter its life will be. Putting it in an attic in the middle of the summer is a sure way to kill it. I doubt you'll find any consumer electronic product that will stand up to that kind of punishment for a prolonged period of time. |
