|

Hi all, I'm going to be up for renewal this fall and that means I can get another card with my contract. The question is, does anyone know for sure if they are going to have any other cards other than the pc5750? I know it is type a but I haven't seen one yet. Does it have a external antenna outlet ? the other is , will it work with the older pc's? I have the KPC-650, but would like to upgrade to rev a. What are the problems with this card and working with a older xp home version laptop? My laptop is just a little over a year old.
What other cards will work with a KR1 router as I'm thinking about getting one.
Thanks for any help on this and the Alltel Network, Capt.Dan. |

| I have a 5750, and it's working with my HP laptop, which is 3 years old now. Also, I have it running in a dlink dir-450 without problems, with an external antenna. |

Word is that Alltel will be offering the Kyocera KP-680 Express Card. That's the only upcoming card I know of and sounds like you need a PCMCIA card anyway. I do wonder if Kyocera will be offering a new express card router once this becomes available.
I've had my PC5750 since March. Haven't had any problems with the card itself and am pleased with the performance. I don't need to use the external antenna, so can't comment. I activated the PC5750 on my old Dell Inspiron (purchased August 2001) that only has XP SR1 installed and it works well. However, I use it mostly in the Linksys router to provide a wi-fi connection to a newer Dell laptop and a Macbook Pro (the KR1 now supports the PC5750 but didn't when I bought the Linksys). |

| I have the 5750 in a very old Dell laptop. I can't recall the exact model or year, but I guess it is about 6 or 7 years old. I am running WindowsXP Pro and everything runs ok. |

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that it was a type a card that had some of the same issues the pc5740 had like no external antenna input. I was also wondering if my computer had the input for an express card. Sounds like this is a good deal. Now I have one more question, Does Alltel still sale the KR1 router and an external antenna. I was talking to a rep this morning and I got the impression that I was or he was from Pluto or some such place!
Thanks again, Dan |

I don't think Alltel ever sold the KR1 router (so are you from Pluto Capt.Dan? ). You'd probably get a better deal on the KR1 if you bought it through 3Gstore anyway (not to mention better long-term support). |

Hum, I guess I got some faulty info. Ok, I will buy it from you then, At least I would have someone on the other end that would know what they were talking about! I hope the KPC-850 is available in November, Or I will get the 5750. Sounds like those are going to be the cards of choice. It will be then that I want to get the KR-1 and antenna for our Motorhome.
Thanks for the info and I will check back later, Capt.Dan. |

Alltel does indeed sell the KR1. They have for months. That's where I first heard of it but I am glad I bought mine through 3GStore. You have to go through the business side of Alltel and even then you have to get lucky enough to find someone who knows about them.
I was lucky enough to spend an hour or so with tech support today and happened to ask while I was waiting for them to start a trouble ticket on an issue I was having. (Why in the world does that taje so long by the way?) As of Saturday morning they sell them for $299. A real good deal huh? NOT.
FWIW, the guy also told me Alltel will have the PPC 6800 phone in July. It's supposed to be Rev A capable too via an upgrade for when Alltel finally gets in the Rev A business which from what I hear is probably not till the end of the year. Anyway, it looks to be quite a device with WiFi, EVDO, etc. We'll see. |

Well here I am, back from Pluto with a little egg on my face!
Thanks, Bigdave, for the correction. Coincidently, yesterday I googled across the Sept.'06 Kyocera KR1/Alltel press release while helping a friend plan her EvDO escape from dial-up. I also see that Kyocera has dropped the UTStarcom PC5750 back off the list of supported cards.
Anyhow, Bigdave -- see what happens when you drop off the face of the Earth?! Good to see you back! Thanks, too, for the FWIW on the PPC 6800. I've been thinking of upgrading my phone and that's the one I'm most interested in. |

Big Dave , Thanks for setting us straight! I have a plan to [try] and get the KPC-680 and the kr1 but will get the KR1 at the 3G Store. I know that the KPC will work with that KR1 for sure so thats the card of my choice! From the 3G store, I can get the KR1 and an antenna for less than the KR1 at Alltel! Looking froward to that!! |
