|

This thread will discuss the upcoming PPC6800 and if tethering via USB will be supported on Mac OS X. Since BlueTooth 2.0 will be included in the PPC-6800, Mac users may finally have a COOL way to tether at full speeds. One issue, will be how long the battery will last when tethering via BlueTooth. Also, will the device charge via the USB cable?
Being able to tether the PPC-6800 to a Mac could make this the killer device.
More info on the PPC6800 and Mac compatibility after it is released by Sprint in a few weeks. We will be testing one after it ships _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier

I have a MacBook Pro and would love to hear about anyone who has successfully tethered a Mogul via Bluetooth with their Mac.
Hopefully somebody has tried it, because I would rather not sign any contracts just to find out I have to use Parallels everytime I need to tether it.
Thanks!

I have been successful in using the Mogul / PPC-6800 tethered via BlueTooth 2.0 to my MacBook Pro.
USB Does not seem to be supported - no Mac drivers available.
Since the PPC-6800 is currently has Rev 0 firmware, we get Rev A speeds. here is a benchmark that I just got with my MacBook Pro tethered via BT 2.0:
When the free firmware upgrade is available later this year for the PPC-6800, it will bring Rev A speeds to the device.
Tethering to the Mac, was a little more complicated than tethering other devices, so we are going to put together a PPC-6800 Mac BT Tip Sheet for those that purchase the PPC-6800 from us. More on this later.
FYI, I am typing this email from the MacBook Pro, while tethered over BlueTooth 2.0 _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael,
Any idea on when you might have some quick tips around for tethering the PPC-6800 with a Mac? I just ordered mine today, and hopefully will have it on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.
Thanks again! |

Hey all...
I'm in Canada using a TELUS Mobility HTC p4000 (same as Mogul but with WM 5 instead)
My initial dilemma was I could not tether this device to my MacBook Pro via USB or BT....but googling around I found the following solution.
Out of the box the unit is does not support bluetooth tethering (the TELUS version that is)....however there is a third party software available called 'USB Modem' by a company called Mobile Stream....
They have a free trial and it works amazingly well on the MacBook Pro both USB and BT connections tethering....supports both Mac & Windozzze platforms.
hope i helps....
cheers |

It arrive! Overall, I like it quite a bit.
I have not been able to tether it to my MacBook Pro yet. I downloaded the software from Mobile Stream, but I am hoping that I don't need to purchase it.
Michael, it sounded like you possibly got it working without having to use a third-party driver or software?
Thanks in advance for any info or tips!

Ok, I was searching for days about how to use the PPC 6800 as a modem for my MacBook with not luck. I did finally figure it out and wanted to post my success for others who may need help with it.
I am running OSX 10.5.2
The phone I'm using is an Alltel PPC 6800 PDA (with the touch screen and windows operating system looking interface)
What I did to get my PDA/Mobile phone to act as a wireless modem via bluetooth connection for my MacBook:
1. On the phone goto, Start>Settings>Connections>Bluetooth. Make sure "Turn on Bluetooth" and "Make this device visible to other devices" are both checked.
2. On your Mac make sure that your Bluetooth is on, and is discoverable.
3. Now on the phone click on the Devices tab, then click on "Add new device...". Hopefully your computer will show up in the list as an option, if so, click it and press next. Then punch in a security code (if there is a check box on the phone that says "Serial Port" go ahead and check it), hit next, a box should pop up on the Mac asking for permission to pair the two devices. Input the same code here as you did on the phone then click pair.
4. If your still with me there should be a new window on your Mac that is asking you what services you would like to use with the device your pairing. It should be something about using your device as a headset, and something about using it as a network adapter. I left both checked and clicked finish.
5. If you've made it this far, your on the home stretch. On your phone, make sure everything is saved, you don't have anymore next buttons to push, yada yada, then get to the home screen and press start. Now go down to "Internet Sharing". Under "PC Connection:" choose Bluetooth PAN, if you don't have that option, choose whatever sounds the closest and hope for the best. Now Under "Network Connection:" Choose Alltel Axcess Link (or whoever your provider is) then press "Connect".
6. Did your phone dial out, then connect? Awesome, we are almost done then. On your Mac open your Bluetooth Preferences and on the left you should see your device. Go ahead and click on it then at the bottom you will see some icons, a +, a -, and a cog. Click the cog and choose "Connect to Network". There you go, you should now be online....or not.
Good luck and if you have anything to add please do. |
