|
|
First off, located in San Luis Obispo, CA. Seems there is only NationalAccess here now.... EVDO has been rumored here for years now, still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
Anyways, Im currently paying $50 a month for data plan on my Treo 700w. I figure I might as well drop that, add the unlimited data at only $9.99 more a month. Therefore, Im interested in purchasing a wireless card that works on the VZW network. So I must know.... which is the best card out for Verizon? But, it gets complicated.
This card will be permanently installed into the Kyocera KR1 router, which will be permanently mounted inside my vehicle. Therefore, I need a wireless card that is compatible with the KR1.
Now, being mounted in my vehicle, and making for a clean install integrated with my carputer, the router will be tucked away under seats, etc. Therefore I want an external antenna for the wireless card. Either NMO drill through roof mount, magnetic, or even glass mount possibly for the cab rear window.
Now, it seems that the only card that meets my above expectations is the 5750.... is this really the case? From what Ive read, thats the entry level card, has a flimsy antenna jack, etc. I was thinking the AC595, but it seems its not compatible with the KR1. Is there a better choice for me?
Of course in line with the EVDO antenna, I plan on adding the 3w EVDO Direct Connect amp. No problems with that, right?
Again, an external antenna on the KR1 Router for sharing my wifi connection, mounted via NMO or Mag mount. Lo-profile would be great as well.
So, can anyone help with my dilemma on finding a card? Ive been on this site the greater part of the day, with 15+ tabs open, and am having a hard time gettin my complete package setup to where everything is going to work perfect, the first time. Thanks! [/url] |

Hello,
Why not go with the USB720?
The USB720 works great with the KR1 (with the latest firmware) and we have seen some incredible speeds results with it. Of course, there is an external antenna port, you can also hook up an amplifier.
Your other points are correct.
The KR1 does not work with the AC595
Feel free to Contact Us directly and we would be happy to discuss what would work best for you. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hmmm... Ive seen the USB720 mentioned, but didnt understand how it interfaced with the KR1 with it being, well, USB, not PCMCIA. Time for more reading..... Thanks.
And it looks like the USB720 it is! Need to get everything ordered up now. |

I thought Sprint, not Verizon, was Broadband EVDO provider in SLO? I was in the area a few weeks ago, and never got Broadband access.
Last I heard, the Coastal area will be Rev A for Sprint, but Verizon won't be updating to more than National Access along the Coast. Instead, Verizon has Broadband in Central California, while Sprint will remain at their slower speeds.
FWIW, I'm on Verizon, and we have EVDO in the Central Valley; if I still lived in SLO, I'd have signed up with Sprint instead.
So check their coverage maps. Don't waste money on your equipment, when the carrier has no plans to upgrade on THEIR end. |

| I have a KPC-650 (kyocera) PCMCIA card which has an antenna jack and have been happy with it, however if you don't have a laptop to update the PRL list (usually monthly, this is a list of EVDO, roaming, etc) I would go with a USB. |

Update......
Verizon has told me they will have broadband up and running along the central coast (SLO, Morro Bay and maybe up to Santa Barbara) by March 08. I talked to some higher level folks the other day and was told to watch my phone for the EV icon as they expect to start testing soon. I believe though Verizon only has 850 Mhz towers here so I will be curious in regards to performance (speed). Sprint has the 1900 Mhz tower. Maybe Verizon will contract a 1900 tower. One thing even on the 850 Mhz tower it will seem like lightning speeds after all this time with 1xRTT and download speeds of 120 or so. Verizon, bring it on |
