OK I had to V620 cards that got fried by my KR1 in one year period. Luckily they were under warranty so they exchanged them. During the period I had my third V620 my first KR1 got bricked beyond repair so kyocera was nice enough to send me a new one. I was hopping that the new one would have no problems in terms of killing my card. But now behold a couple of months after my third card is dead... I get that dreadful orange light on the card and nothing happens. The laptop does not recognise the card... same as the last two.

A note here is that I use the KR1 in my car so it turns on and of about 3 or 4 times a day.

Any one had any similar experience/problems?

Sounds like a power issue as that is very strange. You may want to try an inverter, which may regulate the power more effectively instead of the KR1 lighter plug and see if it stops frying the card or vice versa if you are already using an inverter.

Thanks for your answer bbennettfl!

I did think about that and did some tests on the lighter plug regulator that comes with KR1. On the work bench with a load close to the KR1 I changed the input voltage all the way down to 6V but the max I could give was 12V. I observed no disturbing variations on the output voltage and current.
Also I thought that the KR1 has some internal power regulation circuitry.

I currently use the lighter plug. No inverter. I do also have a 12 volt regulator that feed the computer so I might connect the lighter plug to the regulated 12V line from that.

If power would damage the V620 shouldn't it be fried completely?

Truth is that this is the most apparent reason...

I guess nobody here had similar experience.

I am almost embarrassed to call Verizon and try to make them swap my last card which my KR1 killed. REMARKABLY when I mention the KR1 to Verizon customer support the say they have no idea what it is!!

One the other hand I don't have the money to get a new one...

I wonder can I have it fixed?
