It seems that when using a Sierra Wireless 595U on WinXP MCE which has VMWare Workstation installed (as a host OS), it refuses to connect because it senses that there are other Ethernet adapters connected (the VMWare virtual Ethernet adapters for host-only and bridged networking). These adapters will always show up as connected, even though they don't go to anything useful.
I can't find an option in the settings to disable this check. What I've done for now is to disable the adapters in Windows, but I lose functionality of VMWare when I do that. Is there any other solution to this?
I just downloaded and installed the new connection manager, BTW. This worked fine with the old one, but the new interface is SOOO much better |

I'm using the S720 card fine with VMWare and also notice the VMWare adapter warning but it still works fine with no issues. I do have to disable the physical ethernet and WiFi for the host OS in order for the EVDO connection to stay up, but the virtual ones do not interfere.
I actually don't use the CM to connect anymore and connect using Thinkpad's connection manager (Access Connections) that auto disables local wifi/ethernet when using EVDO. Or I use Windows Network Connections.
Once having EVDO running at the host, you do need to set the virtual adapters to NAT mode rather than Bridged mode in order for client VMs to use the host EVDO connection.
I've also created a thread on how to use an EVDO card within a VM client and allow ethernet/wifi connected on the host OS. |
