|

I've done some looking through the KR-1 forum here but didn't see anything specific enough about improving performance on KR-1 based systems, so I'm hoping that the great members of this forum can contribute some good material!
What I'm wondering is if anybody who has any ideas on ways to improve performance, be it throughput, stability, latency, WHATEVER, on a KR-1 based system could respond with those suggestions and/or links to existing articles. I've recently upgraded to a Rev-A card and have seen some improvements over my old setup ( KPC650 ), especially in my upload speeds but if anything more can be done I would love to hear about it! I've included my specific setup below, but I would like to think that most of the results of replies here would apply to a wide variety of KR-1 based setups. Thanks in advance for you contributions!
My Setup
KR-1 with 1010 firmware
USB720 Rev-A EVDO modem
Trucker Antenna from 3GStore ( you guys are the best! ) |

I would like to see more performance tuning on the KR1 as well.
when connected directly to my home computer, or laptop. Download speeds are near 1300, but when in the KR1 they drop to 400-500 range. something is definatly throttling back the speed |

| I would be interested in this, as well. Maybe there are some hidden config screens on the KR1 that someone has come across? |

| No such thing exists and there is no way to tweak KR1 from a software standpoint. |

What I'm afraid is that there isn't much that can be done but I thought I would run it past the community anyway, nothing to lose! Some of the things that I've wondered about after reading about them on these forums are :
1. HA or "Home Agent" settings. Supposedly ( at least with Sprint networks at one time ) tuning these could help out tremendously. I don't know if they apply here because I doubt that they can be set on the KR-1 but maybe they could be set on a PC with the EVDO device plugged into it and once set, plug it back into the KR-1? Unfortunately I found nothing specific about doing this for Verizon devices beyond the fact that they do use HAs so this might not help me but may benefit Sprint users.
2. TCP/IP Settings. The "Supercharged EVDO" sticky talks about changing some settings whose value have been debated for years. I'm not weighing in on the argument on either side, just saying that there is some disagreement on the effectiveness of these settings. I also doubt, once again, that these can be set on the KR-1. They could be set on the PC's connecting to the KR-1 but I doubt that this would do any good since the KR-1 would probably reshape the packets...or not?
In the end there's a lot of things that I've read that have helped general EVDO setups or individual one's and I know that evrybody using the KR-1 would love to get some more speed if possible so if anybody has any suggestions then please submit them, we would all appreciate it! |

Software performance tweaks are possible... The KR1 runs on a Linux kernel, and the source code is available from the D-Link FTP here
I've downloaded the sourcecode for the KR1, and to me it seems somewhat incomplete and I'm not sure if it can be compiled, but it's worth a try. Really, this router could probably run alternative firmware such as OpenWrt, etc. but that depends on what wireless chip it has and if its supported.
Just my 2 cents, I don't have the time to work on a modified/alternative firmware for this router... I'm just giving you all some ideas. |

| The most credible answer to this kind of question is going to be Mackieman's. |

The only useful tweaks I have found for EVDO in general, including hardware and software is to raise your rwin to (64240) (http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp) and also bump up the amount of connections your browser uses to open web sites and load images. It can greatly speed up web page load times as it uses your EVDO connection more effectively.
Fasterfox, if you use Firefox or IE-max-connections from this page
http://reliancepc.com/reliancepc/menu/tips/iemaxconnections/ (reboot after)
It's ironic but don’t bump the connections to high if using the KR1 as it will crash the KR1. |
